About this deal

This can help you get into position to pop off your other shooting tricks, or just rapidly bundle lots of models onto an objective. This also doesn’t have the limitation that you can only use it during the Conqueror Imperative – that’s clearly when it’s best but it’s not mandatory any longer. We have one new brand unit in the book in the form of the Sydonian Skatros, a dedicated sniper who can be tooled out to deal with Characters armed with a Precision, Anti Infantry 3+ Jezzail putting out Damage 3 at AP-2 (A pair of those would be very effective of taking out characters sat in units) or can harm vehicles and monsters with a Anti Monster 4+ Anti Vehicle 4+ aqurebus (Though this is only damage D3 so a little less effective).

After everything is deployed and you’ve determined who goes first, this enhancement lets you redeploy three units of Skitarii Infantry (including putting them into Strategic Reserves). Similarly losing that limitation, but going up to 2CP, is Bulwark Imperative , providing a 4+ Invulnerable Save to Skitarii (and again tagging from a Battleline to non-Battleline if they’re nearby). When you have at least one Power Source and another type of part, you can combine the two to construct a random Archeotech Treasure. The next detachment is for people who want to lean into a force of sneaky Skitarii Infantry supported by Ironstriders and Cavalry. Starting off with Cantic Thrallnet , which lets you pick a Skitarii unit within 12” and give them both Protector and Conqueror imperative.

Dunecrawlers are now really good at supporting units of Skitarii, they now give all Battleline units wholly within 6″ a 4+ Invulnerable save with their force field – think the shield generating droid vehicles from The Phantom Menance!

To wrap things up, how about one last movement trick with Programmed Withdrawal , which lets you put two Sicarian units, or one Skitarii Infantry/Mounted unit, into strategic reserves at the end of your opponent’s fight phase (providing they are more than 3” away from enemies). It is nice that you can get a bit clever with this – since every Cult Mechanicus Character can go with any of the four units, you can pivot between having this providing once-per-game boosted shooting AP in a match where it mostly doesn’t matter and a once-per-game melee boost by “default”. So with all this content available for free, the big question we had was just what would be available in the Codex once released? You can no longer win some games by default because the opponent flat cannot interact with you, but you can proactively do stuff to them now! For the majority of the Strategems they also have a new rule where if you target a unit of Skitarii with them you can actually have it affect a second unit of Skitarri within 6″, which is pretty cool. Simply take this on a Tech-Priest, park them on a nearby Acquisition objective, and get an extra CP each turn on a 4+.

For millennia, the Tech-Priests—whose flesh has long been supplanted by steel—have safeguarded humanity’s technological relics, enshrouding their work in sacred rites. The final detachment in the book specialises in Robots and grants them all the Doctrina Imperatives rule (Which normally they don’t have access to) They are pretty resilient anyway, so this can make them even harder to kill, or instead make shooty robots viable with the ability to increase their AP when shooting into the enemy deployment zone.

It offers detailed rules for fielding an Adeptus Mechanicus army, whether in story-driven Crusade campaigns or intense Combat Patrol skirmishes. I don’t expect to see this one used that often but watch one will pop up that will wreck my Chaos guys.
