Facial features and texture like make-up brush strokes, wrinkles, freckles, sweat beads, dried dirt/blood, skin blemishes and more come through clear as day. It’s a movie that’s incredibly beautiful in its production design, costumes and cinematography, but it’s also lacking in clear direction and its bashes you over the head with its narrative consistently for its quite hefty three-hour runtime. That’s the wild ride that was Damien Chazelle’s Babylon just a few months back during the holiday season.

I’m pretty grateful this exists on here as I thought we might be getting just a bunch of skimpy couple minutes long EPK featurettes. Sidney Palmer (Jovan Adepo) is eager to prove that he as well as his fellow musicians of color are just as talented, if not more so, than those faces on screen. Margot Robbie plays Nellie LaRoy, a confident, overly ambitious, self-proclaimed star who attends the party that begins the film thanks to the help of Manny Torres, a Mexican immigrant played by Diego Calva whose path intertwines with Nellie’s throughout the film.

Featuring electrifying performances from Diego Calva, Margot Robbie, and Brad Pitt, the film is hilarious and engrossing in fits and starts but running over three hours is an often tedious affair. While there are similarities to actors back then, these characters aren’t meant to be anyone specific. Surround Sound Presentation: Every inside and outside area is full of sound and even the quietest rooms feel lived in. Really is crap when bloated mediocre reruns like Avatar Way of the Water take in billions in global box office and intellectually entertaining and interesting films like this can't even make back their budget. As a whole it’s incredibly pleasing to the eye and definitely a winner for Steelbook collectors out there. The 4K version scores a BD-100 disc, a Region-Free BD-50 disc is saved for the 1080p presentation while an additional BD-25 is reserved for the bonus features. The Costumes of Babylon – Here’s a quick, three-minute featurette that touches on the costume pieces found in the film. Black Levels: Blacks are natural and absolutely gorgeous here as they bring out a lot of the attitude in their contrast in making colors strike where it counts.

The music is infectious with lively beats and tunes to accentuate the chaos but the jazzy brass and drums kick the Atmos mix’s LFE factor into high gear for some exciting rumble in the subs. Flames, candlelight, lights, signs and other little things pop with good HDR glow when contrasted against the night or shadows. I didn’t completely connect with it, but I’m more than willing to check it out again down the line to see if the second or third time is the charm. That shouldn’t be something that makes it or breaks it for you though, as sometimes experiencing a film once is all you need.

It missed at the box office and it’s not a movie I’d say everyone should run out and see, but it’s worth checking out.
