A letter Away from Asaba is an emotional and intimate account of the Asaba massacre that occurred in 1967, Nigeria.

Nevertheless, I cannot deny that the general neglect of African history during my first two years has only made me hungrier for history pertaining to Nigeria. The book follows two lifelong friends, Chioma and Onome, as they investigate the atrocities that led to the massacre in their hometown of Asaba and the obstacles they encounter. You’ll hear from them in their own words about their experiences, ambitions, insights, and any advice they’d give to fellow women seeking to leave the planet better than they found it.

The last sentence of this book written in Claudia’s acknowledgments is as follows; “through reading this historical fictional narrative, I hope it inspires people to seek out their history and immerse themselves into crucial historical discourse. International Women’s Day also gives us an opportunity to recognise the inner and outer work we all need to do to achieve gender equality for all women, regardless of where they come from.
