The book was such an eye opening read for me, bringing together subjects and events I had heard about throughout my life, but didn’t ‘know’ about. This first edition is regarded as one of the most beautiful productions of Churchill's works, with tall red volumes and. This is a magnificent, full, four-volume British first edition, first printing set of Churchill's sweeping history and last great work.

The set was presented by Churchill to his close friend and associate Frank Clarke, who famously hosted Winston and Clementine Churchill at his Miami Beach home in January and February 1946, prior to Churchill's March appearance at Fulton College, Missouri to deliver what would come to be known as his "Iron Curtain" speech. This interesting little book is excerpted from Churchill's A History of the English-Speaking Peoples. The narrative commences fifty-five years before the birth of Christ, when Julius Caesar famously “turned his gaze upon Britain,” and concludes in the year 1900. It aims rather to present a personal view on the processes whereby English-speaking peoples throughout the world have achieved their distinctive position and character.
