Illuminates and sends announcements to Echo devices whenever motion is detected, and lets you see, hear, and speak to people on camera with select Echo and Fire TV devices. On the whole, the Ring Spotlight Cam Pro Battery proved problem-free in terms of monitoring and alerts once it was set up, although keeping it “talking” to our Wi-Fi was an issue. The property where it was installed relies on booster discs to extend the signal outside – and while this has been sufficient for other outdoor tech, this camera didn’t work well on the system. Often simply nudging the camera for a better angle would cause it to lose connectivity. Essentially, you’ll need a solid Wi-Fi signal for the best performance – and you may well find that while the battery doesn’t limit where you install it, connectivity could have a bearing. Ring states that the Spotlight Cam Pro Battery requires a minimum upload speed of 2Mbps for optimal performance. Another new feature compared to older battery-operated Ring Cams is Pre-Roll, something more usually found on hard wired surveillance devices where power saving is not required in the same way. This shows a few seconds of activity that occurred before a motion alert is triggered, a feat achieved by retrieving the stop motion type images the cam captures continuously. It allows you to see a bit more of a person’s approach to the camera and could come in useful on those occasions where the PIR sensor triggers the camera a bit too late to capture useful footage. Along with better distance estimates, motion alerts are more accurate and it helps eliminate errant motion alerts that Ring devices have been known to produce.

New to this model are several features previously only offered with the Ring Floodlight Cam Wired Pro including Bird’s Eye View and 3D motion detection. The 3D motion detection feature allows you to create custom motion zones with distance thresholds. When the sensor detects an object, it measures the distance between the object and the camera and sends an alert if that distance exceeds the threshold. 3D motion detection also powers the Bird’s Eye View feature that lets you see where visitors have traveled while on your property. These events appear as dots on an aerial map and show the path of the visitor. Other new features include color pre-roll, which shows you what triggered a motion event with up to six seconds of extra video, color night vision, and dual-band Wi-Fi. Note that the spotlights here aren't nearly as bright as the floodlights on the Floodlight Cam Pro. Features for Spotlight Cam Pro include HDR video, Colour Night Vision, Colour Pre-Roll, Audio+, dual-band wifi, LED spotlights, 3D Motion Detection, Bird’s Eye View and Customisable Motion Zones. CAUTION: Risk of fire. Do not install near combustible or flammable surfaces. The Hardwired Kit must be installed on a wall or eave. Ring Spotlight Cam Pro: Wired or Wireless?

Second, the light, which has a pleasant yellow cast, only comes on when triggered for around twenty seconds. You can switch it on manually but, again, it turns itself off after twenty seconds. Apply a weatherproof silicone caulk or sealant around the outside where the wired mount and wall meet to prevent water from entering the junction box. What could be useful, if you have more than one device, is the app’s Modes. These allow you to activate all cameras at once when you’re away, for example, or just the outdoor ones when you’re at home, plus its motion schedule, which enables alerts and recordings while you’re away. Remove the brown (L) and blue (N) wires. Then, remove the yellow wired mount bonding conductor wire and the home protective earthing conductor wire. WARNING: The pressing plate should be over the cable insulation, and not over the individual wires.

What’s more, you can retrospectively switch the power supply method by purchasing the relevant accessories. Vertical or horizontal surface for mounting. Installation by a qualified electrician may be required in your area. Since then, it’s evolved into the Floodlight Cam Pro, initially with a wired model followed by this battery-powered version, delivering greater flexibility in terms of where it’s installed outside your home. And while the concept behind the camera remains similar – its purpose being to monitor any comings and goings outside your home – the Floodlight Cam Pro Battery boasts a new lineup of features that make fulfilling this purpose easier, clearer and more accurate.Linking the camera to Wi-Fi is straightforward, but the multiple decisions surrounding the settings you want lengthens the process somewhat, especially since they’re all available to toggle later on. An option to choose default settings would be a welcome addition for those who just want to get the Spotlight Cam Pro Battery up and running. A USB charging cable for recharging the battery is included. Plug your Spotlight Cam into a power outlet Plug your Spotlight Cam into an outlet in the same room as your Wi-Fi router to set it up. I was pleased with the color saturation (thanks to the HDR feature) and the clarity; 1080p is more than good enough to easily see who or what is in front of the camera.
