About this deal

Put your top piece in place and sew around the snout leaving the straight edge open. Turn it right side out. Now place your snout where you want it (just below the eyes) on your towel and run a tight zig zag stitch across the straight edge. (BUT-if you want him to breathe fire, put some fire under there before you stitch: Then, to do the other three, simply fold your towel in half so that the face is on the inside. Line your spikes up so they are facing inside just like you did with the teeth before. Do a zigzag down the towel. This will both from the hood and sew your spikes in place: Cut a little bit bigger around the template on the terry cloth. I cut 10 plates, and ended up using 9. (Cut 10 to be on the safe side.) For this towel, we will make the plates for the head first. I drew a paper template for one plate first. The towel should be folded, long ways, each long side folded to the middle line, and then the whole thing folded in half. (This way, you can cut them two at a time, through 4 layers of fabric) Now use the other half of your hand towel to cut out a snout. It’s basically just a circle cut in half. Then I used felt to cut out a bunch of teeth. Place your teeth between the two halves of the circle facing inward.

I am so happy with how this hooded towel turned out. I started out making him not quite sure what I was going to do, but the end result is great! I think this is my favorite hooded towel so far. This is the third hooded towel that I have done. (To follow my progress, first was the plain version and next was the shark hoodie.) This one is done for a little dinosaur lover that we know.

To make the spikes use your accent color and cut out triangles. I did 4 spikes so I needed 8 triangles: For the spike on the top of the towel I cut a small slit (about 2-3 inches) above the eyes on my dragon, wedged the spike down in there and then sewed it closed from the underside.Next, open the hood up, find the center of the bath towel, and line that up with the center seam of the hood. Attach the hood to the bath towel. The directions for the hood itself can be found in the original post. Hoodie Bath Towel. Read through that post to get an idea of where you are going.

Then, using the same template, cut out plate shape from the interfacing. For these, cut close to the edge, true to the paper. (Then the interfacing will fit in the middle of the terry cloth, and allow for the seam.) Baste the plates to one layer of the hood so that they stay in place. (In the picture above, you can still see my baste stitches in white.) Set the second layer of the hood on top. Then stitch the hood together. Go across this seam several times for strength, as the hood will really take a beating. Because I have done several hooded towel posts already, I am not going to go into great detail about all of this. The frog towel post has a lot of detail about how to do all of this, so refer to that if you need the help. Open the hood up, and arrange the plates. They should be organized in layers, with the rough edge facing the seam of the hood.Is he a dinosaur or is he a dragon? Well, he could be either, but I’ll give you a clue (if the post title wasn’t enough). Mine breathes fire. But you want to call it a dino? He (or she) could be that too.
