Look no further than the Designer Metallic Wall Peacock Watch (28 Inches) from the beautiful wall art clock collection from Punam Metalcrafts! We follow in our study of al-Jazari’s device his own narrative, but our description given below is not concerned with exact details of its construction but concerned with how components are linked with each other and with the purpose of the clock and its functioning.

The Peacock water clock is one of the unique clocks mentioned in Al-Jazari’s book of Al-Jami ‘ bayn al-‘ilm wa ‘l-‘amal al-nafi ‘ fi sina ‘at al-hiyal (A Compendium on the Theory and Useful Practice of the Mechanical Arts) [2]. For the two peachicks ‘fighting’, there is a long rod extending from the base of each peacock, see the video and Fig. Kumarasvami, The Treatise of Al-Jazari on Automata: Leaves from a Manuscript of the Kitab fi Ma’arifat al-Hiyal al-Handasiya in the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, and Elsewhere. Introducing the Haughty Peacock Design Wall Clock, a stunning piece of metal wall art that doubles as a functional clock. Owl cage starts to rotate, the bells ring, the owl turns its head to the right and to the left, winking and tapping the right foot. The clock was made by the famous British jeweler James Cox in the 1770s and purchased for the Hermitage collection by Catherine the Great. The swan, which can raise its neck, turn its head and (seemingly) pick up small fish, still functions, as is demonstrated daily.

Al-Jazari does not explain why he chose a Peacock in this clock and in his handwashing device ( wudhu’ machine). Such features generated ingenious ideas and mechanisms in the form of camshafts, escapements, complex gears, control systems and reciprocating pumps. Our small-group adventures are inspired by our Atlas of the world's most fascinating places, the stories behind them, and the people who bring them to life. Cox's popularity was important to British trade: the tea trade ensured that British imports far outweighed their exports to China, and Cox helped redress the imbalance. Since the 18th century it was been delighting visitors with its spectacle of three singing birds — an owl, a peacock, and a rooster — and is now the only large example of 18th century robotics to have survived unaltered into the 21st century. This is a contrast to the information we have the oldest extant copy of his book (preserved in Topkapi Sarayi Libray, Ahmet III collection, MS 3472) which was completed by Muhammad ibn Yusuf ibn ‘Uthman al-Haskafi at the end of Sha’ban 602 H/ 10 April 1206.
