About this deal

I like to think that I know what I'm talking about. I scored two perfect scores on the SAT and have worked directly with thousands of students prepping for the SAT. I've helped test takers of all levels, from those scoring around 800 to those aiming for 1530+. Other writers don't have the expertise needed to differentiate between good and bad SAT books, and end up recommending books as an afterthought. There are hundreds of books available for year six. We have selected ONLY the ones we think are most useful and included them below. Choose these guides if you're scoring below a 600 on a section, and you want to boost your score to at least a 600 level. Official SAT tests released by the College Board are the gold standard for practice questions. At present, there are 10 official tests. These aren't exactly a "prep book" in the standard sense, but altogether they make up quite an important resource not too different from a book. Now that we've got all that out of the way, let's move on to our list of SAT books. Because the best representation of SAT questions always come from the test makers themselves, I'll be starting this list with the College Board's Official SAT Study Guide.

I explain in detail why certain SAT books are good and what each book's flaws are. You probably haven't heard of some of these prep books; many are newer or less well known and thus aren't featured as widely as books from more popular companies with larger marketing budgets. Most other SAT books guides just list a few books without context, but we tell you every critical piece of information you need to know before buying a book. As SAT experts who have made it our mission to understand the test and help students succeed, we are dedicated to providing you with the best resources to achieve both your academic and personal goals. If you're self-motivated and prefer using SAT books in your prep, then they can be a great way to learn content, practice strategies, and try out sample questions. Ideally, you'll vet any advice you get (including ours) before deciding on your SAT prep plan. Before you read each article in your research, be sure to ask yourself, "Why should I trust this person online giving me SAT advice?" We'll start with my recommendations for Math prep books, starting with Dr. Steve Warner's 500 New SAT Math Problems. The books are extremely thorough, covering every nook and cranny of what you need to know for the SAT. You can be confident that little is tested outside of what's in these books. While studying for the SAT Reading section might seem hard to break down into specific parts, Erica Meltzer's Complete Guide to SAT Reading does a good job outlining the skills you'll need. Question types are arranged by difficulty level, so you can break them up and customize your math practice depending on your needs. You might start with Dr. Jang's diagnostic test and then space out the book's 10 sample tests as you prep. If you have access to a printer and a working internet connection, I'd say to take advantage of the free online material and learn about the SAT that way. The total number of tests is still limited, so you might space out these SAT practice tests throughout your prep as a way to gauge your progress and determine what concepts you need to study most. As with most tests, the key to passing the KS2 SATS is practice. Here are just a few tips to help children get started:

While it's perhaps unfair to compare this book with its predecessors (which focused on the old version of the SAT), I can't help but find it a little limited. The book could be a better resource if it broke down each content area into smaller, more specific subtopics. It offers a very lucid take on the SAT. Its ideas will not only change your view on the SAT, but will also motivate you to work harder by showing you that any student can excel on it. It doesn't include many test-taking strategies, such as time management. This book has lots of practice problems that appeal to students of all levels, but it's probably not sufficient on its own to prep you for all aspects of SAT Math. An important part of your study schedule is knowing exactly when you plan to take the SAT. Read all about how to choose your test dates. While this book does a good job providing realistic practice questions and content review, it's less helpful for learning key SAT strategies, such as time management and the process of elimination. Because this book emphasizes a "learning by doing" approach, it doesn't spend a lot of time going over mindset and critical test-taking strategies.
