Some brands try too hard to put their own twist on the golf shoe with no regard for performance. To put the new Alphacat shoe to the test and see whether they really are the 'King of Comfort', I headed down to Denton GC in Manchester for a full day's testing. To be honest, once I was out on the course I couldn't really feel anything different with this traction compared to a usual pair of spikeless shoes, but I completed my round of golf without any slips or feelings of instability despite playing from a variety of different lies. Centralised Crystal Rubber engineered in an anatomic shape for an easy heel-to-toe ride provides grip on any surface protecting you from slipping while on the course, the clubhouse, and anywhere in between. On the shoe's heel, the addition of the fabric strap is a nice feature which can be seen of a number of Puma shoes over the last few years.

Are there any Puma golf shoes on sale?

PUMA have always been a front runner when pushing the boundaries to design trendy yet functional golf shoes and the GS-Fast, an update on their much talked about RS-G Golf Shoes, certainly continues that trend. These are a statement shoe for those players wanting to complete a streetwear look on the course. Admittedly these shoes will not be everyone's cup of tea and we did get several comments about them from playing partners and other members of the golf course when we first tested them out. Having no distinct tongue section meant that you almost have to use these shoes like a slip-on first, and then tighten them with the laces afterwards. The PUMA ALPHACAT NITRO is the antithesis of this notion. See that giant PUMA stripe logo near the heel? I was worried that this was simply a cosmetic change to enhance the branding and storytelling of the shoe. Instead, PUMA made this a fully functional heel counter that aids in lateral stability.

The Proadapt outsole not only looks cool but also does an important job of providing traction on both soft and hard surfaces due to the two distinct patterns. PUMA Golf introduces the new ALPHACAT NITRO, a spikeless shoe with premium cushioning that provides explosive energy and propulsion with each step. With the new Alphacat Nitro PUMA continues to raise the bar in the spikeless golf shoe category, creating a fashion-forward design with hi-tech materials and advanced performance. I always feel that the sign of a really good pair of golf shoes is that you tend to forget you're wearing them after a while, because they comfortably support your foot and give you all the grip you need whilst swinging, and I'd say that's exactly what the Alphacat was like. Having said that, the new upper was firmer than in the Pwradapt Caged and this then provided a nice balance between a shoe that is ideal for use during the summer when the weather is better, but still gives you the support that you need.

The laces are attached to the TPU section of the shoe to ensure that the shoe's outer body is brought towards your foot when you tighten them. Is the ALPHACAT NITRO and its nitrogen-infused midsole the most comfortable PUMA golf shoe I’ve ever worn? I’d say so. This statement must be taken with a grain of salt because I can’t say I’ve worn every PUMA golf shoe. That said, of the PUMA shoes tested in 2023, the ALPHACAT NITRO provides the most comfortable underfoot cushion. Retooled Traction
