About this deal

Taxing The Spirit: 1220 to Today". Bruichladdich. Archived from the original on 17 December 2010 . Retrieved 1 October 2007.

The Glenlivet distillery is renowned for its fruitiness and subtle sweetness while Glenfiddich offers more robust flavours with character. Both produce excellent whiskies in their own right and offer something different from one another. Ultimately, it’s up to you to decide which you prefer, the aim of this article is to help inform you as to which one will suit your palate. It’s been several years since I was fortunate enough to visit The Glenlivet Distillery, but I remember it well. It was May, but it being Scotland, it had snowed the night before. The great Alan Winchester, who stepped down as Master Distiller at The Glenlivet last year after nearly five decades in the Scotch business, was on hand to guide us through tasting several iterations of his single malt. So, I was already familiar with The Glenlivet 21 Year Old when Pernod-Ricard announced they were relaunching both it and the 25 Year Old malts.a b c d e Morrice, Philip (1983). The Schweppes Guide To Scotch. Sherborne, Dorset, England: Alphabooks. pp.340–342. ISBN 978-0-906670-29-3. Smith began production in Upper Drumin, on the land he leased from his landlord the Duke of Gordon, and exactly 25 years later a second distillery was opened to meet rising demand. The Cairngorm-Delnabo Distillery, as it was called, proved unable to quell demand even with production output doubled, and construction began on a final larger distillery which would centralize the work and consolidate the operation. Glenfiddich is a unique single malt Scotch whisky produced in a single distillery, crafted with the traditional pot still distillation process and made from malted barley.

The distillery has 7 wash stills each with a capacity of 15,000 litres and 7 spirit stills with a capacity of 10,000 litres. [6] The spirit is then matured in oak casks. [5] Still fiercely independent the fifth generation of William Grant’s descendants continue to actively oversee Glenfiddich today. What are Speyside Whiskies? Established in 1824, the Glenlivet distillery is nestled near Ballindalloch in Moray, Scotland. As it stands today as the oldest authorized distillery within its parish and produces single malt Scotch whisky of namesake stature. This proud facility has endured many difficulties like The Great Depression and World War II with hardly any closure during these dire times – a testament to its fortitude ! a b Milroy, Wallace (1998). George Smith died in 1871 and his son John Gordon Smith inherited the distillery. The quality of the product from their distillery had resulted in the other distilleries in the area renaming their products to "Glenlivet" and by the time of George's death, several distillers were doing so. J.G. Smith decided to take legal action and tried to claim ownership on The Glenlivet name, this legal action was only partially successful - the verdict forced other distillers in the area to stop calling their whisky Glenlivet and gave J.G. Smith and the blender Andrew Usher sole permission to use the brand, but permitted other distilleries to hyphenate their distillery name with the "Glenlivet" name, which resulted in new distillery names such as The Glen Moray-Glenlivet Distillery, a distillery which is situated nearby. Glenfiddich on the other hand was established by William Grant & Sons in Dufftown in 1886. It offers more intense flavours than Glenlivet. Its robust taste comes from its ageing process of 12-21 years which grants it an incredible depth of character that can be appreciated by whisky connoisseurs around the world.
