No Label Lunch - Union Corner - Plymouth

The No Label Lunch is an event being organised by soically engaged artist Carly Jones and is part of her exploration into mental health issues with her dialogical project We're Not Broke. No Label Lunch is being held in collaboration with Nudge Plymouth and No Whey Tacos. The idea behind The No Label Lunch is to bring a diverse range of people together (medical professionals, teachers, people living with mental health issues, social influencers) to 'break bread' and eat, converse and share, as the act of eating food can be a great tool to breaking down social barriers. The event aims to bring people together on a level playing field with little emphasis on who they are and what their label is. The intention is that by loosing the hierarchy of 'helper' and 'sufferer', conversation can be open and possibly lead to new solutions in how as a society we perceive mental health and wellbeing. What we want you to do is to come to the meal, leave your label at the door and share your experiences and thoughts in an open, honest and progressive discussion. During which we'll share a cup of tea, a Taco or two and an open ear. This event is not intended as therapy or help; but by bringing people together in conversation, new ideas, thoughts and realisations can become possible. About Carly JonesCarly Jones is a socially engaged artist based in Plymouth who focuses her practice on dialogical art events on the subject of mental health issues. Carly’s current work is executed in a variety of social, political and community engaged contexts and Carly’s passion for working within the paradigm of mental health comes from a very personal perspective as her partner has been a long term sufferer of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and suicidal ideation. Her current project titled We’re Not Broke looks to bring as many people together to have open discussions and share experiences on mental health. The first stage of the project involved the organising of community events focused on bringing mental health professionals and those living with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder together in a safe environment to initiate discussion on how the landscape for people facing mental illness could be changed. The events looked at alternative therapies, treatment of and perception of mental illness and attracted keynote speakers such as clinical psychologists, life coaches, doctors and people who had experiences of living with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.
