This was my first book narrated by Nigel Peever, but I am certainly going to be looking for more of his work. Her own need for documents that pass Nazi scrutiny draws her into a life of secrecy and danger and soon she's one of the most prolific forgers in France. Helping the children makes Eva feel like she “can bring some light to the world, even in the midst of all the darkness. On 14 April 1956, Shlomo Lichtensztajn, living in 74 King Salomon Street in Tel Aviv, completed several Pages of Testimony to remember the life of his brother, Israel Lichtensztajn, his sister-in-law, Gele Seksztajn, and his little niece, Margalit Lichtensztajn.

Dayan said that work will continue to try to fill those remaining pages of the book, with Yad Vashem scholars assessing that in the next few years, there will likely be some 400,000 additional identifications of Holocaust victims. Paris 1942, Eva lives happily with her mother Faiga and father Tatus, once the German’s arrive every day life is made more difficult for Jewish citizens and living in Paris is very hard.

There were too many convenient instances of officers looking the other way or yawning while checking paperwork which took away from my investment in the story and made it a predictable, lighter, less intense read. Her other books include The Hospital Dog illustrated by Sara Ogilvie, The Christmas Pine illustrated by Victoria Sandøy and the hugely successful What the Ladybird Heard adventures illustrated by Lydia Monks. Dayan said that Yad Vashem works with dozens of member states, along with governments at federal, provincial and city levels. Dayan told JNS that it is Yad Vashem’s intention to produce a third copy, which will travel to exhibitions in major capitals and population centers around the world.

The importance of the Book of Names is that the victims are immortalized for the future, and the past is never forgotten. Whimsical illustrations that help a child understand the context of each group, it's a lovely little bedtime read. Leti was given the book by Hattie, who informed her the book is bound and that she was told to protect it, but never to open it. Kristen Harmel is a New York Times bestselling author of The Book of Lost Names, The Winemaker’s Wife, and many more novels. While it wasn’t a chore listening to the audiobook, the narration was smooth and clear, the story itself didn’t interest me much. It begins in 2005, when Eva reads a headline in the paper "Sixty Years After End of World War II, German Librarian Seeks to Reunite Looted Books with Rightful Owners. I don't know about the physical copy of this book, but I would have liked to hear an Author's Note on this audiobook. Loved this quote: “She doesn’t understand what it means to love books so passionately that you would die without them, that you would simply stop breathing, stop existing. We liked that there was a glossary of Saints Days at the back so parents could consider naming their child according to the day he or she is born, which is today, an unusual thing to do but certainly adds meaning and weight to the naming process.

While Oliver and Olivia are consistently in the top 10 names – Oliver has been the top boys’ name since 2013 and Olivia the top girls’ name since 2016 – every year brings about change in popularity – often to do with pop culture, politics and even a global pandemic. Because of the way the story was narrated, the romantic passages left me cold and I felt like slapping Eva round the face whenever she revealed carefully guarded secrets and falsified identities. In recognition of this year’s International Holocaust Remembrance Day, Yad Vashem is set to unveil on Thursday an installation at the United Nations headquarters in New York City. Full of brightness, fun and irresistible charm, Nila's illustrations are loved by children and adults alike, and they have won her admiration from publishers around the globe.I really wanted to like this book, the premise was really intriguing, but I did not like the execution. It was initially discovered by Titus Braithwhite in the early 1800s, who founded the Sons of Adam Lodge shortly after. It is one of the most important and exciting decisions a parent will ever make – but naming your baby is hard. Either Eva is terrible at keeping secrets or the author got confused and put the wrong names in the text.
