About this deal

I actually have quite wide wrists and small watches look ridiculous on me, however I really like the 42mm screen size option for those with smaller wrists. There’s also a 47mm and 51mm option. The buttons also sit nearly flush with the casing, and I didn’t have issues with them digging into my wrist. It’s a nice change from previous Fenix models, where the oversized buttons were quite literally painful. Despite having smaller buttons, they are still easy to locate them without needing to look at the watch. Pacing Like a Pro Performance condition (after running 6–20 minutes, compares your real-time condition to your average fitness level) The Training Peaks sync feature, however, isn’t perfect. When two runs are scheduled on the same day, the #2 run can be uploaded into Training Peaks even though you completed the #1 run.

The Fenix 6 is a great example of Garmin’s position as one of the best smartwatch makers out there. Whatever’s thrown at it, expect it to handle with ease and with great accuracy, no matter where you are and what you’re doing. You can get equivalent data from the Forerunner 945 - although that’s limited to the key triathlon sports. You will also find many of the VO2 Max and recovery stats on the Forerunner 245 and 645 – but again, not the full gamut.

Sports Apps

But is the Fenix 6S still a worthy sports watch and are there any sacrifices made to enable this smaller build? Let’s find out.

The Garmin Fenix 6 doesn’t introduce any software features that drastically set it apart from the previous year’s Garmin Fenix 5 Plus, but rather a number of tweaks and adjustments which all help make the watch more intuitive than before.

Multi-GNSS Support

When trekking you also get the TOPO maps and the compass, to help navigate when you're out in the wild. More on those below. You can also swap between power modes mid-hike, so if you're getting low on battery you can put it into the gentler UltraTrac mode. Fenix 6S mapping You should get 14 days' use out of the standard Garmin Fenix 6 in smartwatch mode before it needs recharging, but using the watch's GPS will drain the battery faster (Image credit: TechRadar) The best for power saving is the maximum battery mode, which will turn off most of the Fenix 6’s most demanding features, such as the heart rate sensors, music, phone notifications and GPS. Open-water swim metrics (distance, pace, stroke count/rate, stroke distance, swim efficiency (SWOLF), calories)
