About this deal

Now the headmistress of a private school, Laurie Strode (Jamie Lee Curtis) is still struggling with the horrifying, 20-year-old memories of the maniacal killer Michael Myers when he suddenly appears again with a vengeance! The set includes the NEVER BEFORE RELEASED producers cut of Halloween: The Curse of Michael Myers as well as the ultra-rare network TV version of the original Halloween, the network TV version of Halloween II, plus the unrated versions of Rob Zombie’s Halloween and Halloween II. The Nightmare Isn't Over (HD, 45 min) — Lengthy and insightful retrospective on every aspect of the production. Each movie comes in its own individual black Blu-ray case (the black is an especially nice touch) with the original theatrical poster artwork.

Of the two versions, the Producer's Cut is superior to the Theatrical Cut, which is softer and less resolved with weaker clarity and bland contrast. Granted, the revelation is also a bit on the corny side and frankly, takes away, just a little, from Myers' scariness.Or, his equally eerie march towards his next victim, a calm and patient stride that seemed self-assured and unworried his intended prey would escape.

But overall, it's softer than what would be expected with several blurry moments and contrast that tends to run hot, creating a tad of blooming and clipping in the highlights with very mild posterization. Starz/Anchor Bay Entertainment and Shout/Scream Factory join forces to bring fans the definitive collection of the 'Halloween' franchise to Blu-ray. Unfortunately, the filmmakers fail to maintain the momentum when entering 'Resurrection,' which frankly is an abysmal failure from the same helmer, Rick Rosenthal, who gave fans the first sequel. Finally, the Deluxe Edition set includes a bonus disc with a mix of old and new bonus material, beginning with an HD presentation of the Extended Version of Carpenter’s Halloween (well, mostly HD… the TV inserts are understandably in standard def). And this Halloween, Laurie's rebellious son (Josh Hartnett, 30 Days Of Night), his girlfriend (Michelle Williams, Venom), and their friends will become Michael's newest victims unless Laurie can conquer her fears and put evil in its place once and for all. However, the earlier disc had a panel discussion from the H25 Convention featuring Danielle Harris, Kathleen Kinmont, Sasha Jenson and Jeffrey Landman discussing both Halloween 4 and 5. As long-time fan of the franchise and one of the most famous iconic horror villains, I'm thrilled and excited to see Starz/Anchor Bay and Shout/Scream Factory come together to bring the entire 'Halloween' collection to Blu-ray in a box set pouring with supplemental goodies.

And amazingly, the latter is superior to the former with better pacing, even when clocking in a 95 minutes.

Everything else is the same as the 35thAnniversary disc, including the Cundey-approved transfer, commentary by John Carpenter and Jamie Lee Curtis, The Night She Came Home featurette, On Location: 25 Years Later featurette, TV version footage, trailer, TV and radio spots. Finally, the set includes 5 episodes of Sean Clark’s Horror’s Hallowed Grounds covering Halloween 4, 5 and 6, the Bus Tour episode with Clark acting as tour guide for a group of fans, and the original 2005 pilot episode focusing on Carpenter’s Halloween. Michael Lives (HD, 271 minutes) — An insanely in-depth look at the production and making of the movie. As his fury builds to a spine-tingling climax, the longhidden secrets of the screen's most maniacal murderer are shockingly revealed. The plot is just plain dumb with forgettable and pretty grating characters, decidedly making it the worst film of the series.
