The FX3 is still beefier and heavier than a mirrorless camera like the Sony A6600, but not by much – and it looks small compared to DSLR-sized rivals like the Canon EOS C70. The main physical differences are that the FX3 lacks the built-in electronic viewfinder (EVF) seen on the A7S III, but gains some fan-assisted active cooling (for longer continuous shooting) and a bundled handle accessory. The fact that this XLR handle is included with the FX3 also explains why it's slightly pricier than the Sony A7S III. We haven't found Sony's stabilization to be the best, though, so FX3 shooters may still need to consider using a gimbal or Sony's Catalyst software in the edit room.Sophisticated tracking features keep your subject in steady focus, so you can concentrate on composition. As the latest addition to Sony’s Cinema Line, the FX3 delivers a cinematic look and professional operability and reliability and is the smallest, cheapest cinema camera for pro filmmakers. On the face of it, these cameras offer the same 4K video recording capabilities and slow-motion capture of up to 240fps in full HD. But when you consider how many of the Sony FX6's features it manages to pack into a 715g body, it could well equal the popularity of the Sony A7S III –and possibly even tempt some of the owners of that camera over to the Cinema side. There is one tally light on the front and one on the back, and an LED-illuminated REC button on top that works with the tally lights. The result is true-to-life imagery close to what the naked eye can see, with detailed shadows and highlights, less blackout and less whiteout, all without the need for colour grading.The FX30’s higher resolution sensor means it ‘oversamples’ 6K data down to 4K, which is reckoned to give the sharpest footage. The FX3 combines a fan for active cooling with effective heat dissipation resulting in uninterrupted 4K 60p recording without thermal shutdown. Sony does sell an XLR adapter kit, which lets you add two XLR jacks to A7S III, but it's expensive and arguably a little more clunky than the handle that comes with the FX3.
