About this deal

In everything I do I desire to connect deeply with people, practise integrity, and interpret and present their stories with truth and memorable images. Just as Bare Reality: 100 women, their breasts, their stories presented the un-airbrushed truth about breasts for women, Manhood: The Bare Reality shows us the spectrum of ‘normal’, revealing men’s penises and bodies in all their diversity and glory, dispelling body image anxiety and myths.

It’s very intersesting to read about the lives and “livelihood” of various types men, and see how they view their masculinity. We need to open up lines of communication to dispel any sort of shame or stigma attached to freely discussing men’s health. As I read the book, I saw many interesting things, and I’m not even referring to the multitude of penises (there is also a strong narrative of what word to use when referring to the penis as throughout the book; I settled for the anatomical term in this piece). I'm currently halfway through the book and I can't stop reading, and this is after I've had quite a prolonged spell away from reading. As I was typing this, I really had to wonder – were the interviews taped while they were still naked or did they get dressed first?

Since my experiences with testicular cancer, many of my conversations with my friends have delved into more serious topics, including taking care of their health and taking a real look at the future. Transformational manhood” is in a step in the right direction, but we should continue moving closer to just “humanhood.

Laura Dodsworth is an author, journalist, photographer and commentator and has been described as a ‘latter-day punchy Cassandra’ and a ‘Slayer of Taboos’. Specially, it was amazing to see and understand the sensitive side of man, to connect to their really undercovered fellings. Intimate, visually refreshing, maybe even surprising, Manhood will make you reconsider how you think and feel about your own body, and those of the men in your life. She is the author of the two instant Sunday Times Bestsellers, 'Free Your Mind: The new world of manipulation and how to resist it' (2023) and 'A State of Fear: How the UK government weaponised fear during the Covid-19 pandemic’ (2021). Hearing these men’s stories was an absolute privilege and honour and I am very grateful for the experience.I think this really aligns with what “traditional manhood” is all about – keeping deep thoughts and feeling to yourself. Her previous books 'Bare Reality: 100 women, their breasts, their stories', 'Manhood: The Bare Reality' and 'Womanhood: The Bare Reality' attracted worldwide media coverage and excellent reviews. The long-awaited second instalment in Samantha Shannon's Sunday Times and New York Times-bestselling series Tunuva Melim is a sister of the Priory.
