About this deal

But, as with most of these RAW games, scoring is better when things are crossed off first, so you’ll always be choosing between rushing for certain things versus playing it safe and leaving yourself options. One map tasks you to “clear” six rooms full of rubble (which take two hits instead of one to access). Many of the bosses are only vulnerable after you’ve crossed out activating spaces, so these can be key to winning. I think it only appears in English rulebooks, but we were definitely about to wait until one player has defeated all of the monsters, which would have just resulted in a ton of lost life.

If you have access to a monster, you can also use a number to cross off a damage space for that monster. We are a group of passionate individuals who share our love of board games through written and video reviews, articles, and humor, so that others can join us in our journey. My six-year-old took long turns, but he picked up what needed to happen just fine, and after our games ended, he just grabbed a fresh sheet and played by himself. I also find it interesting how each player’s map will look different and have taken very different paths despite using the same dice. It’s much more my speed than, say, an “I cut, you choose” type of game, since my choice doesn’t negatively impact anyone else. All of the monsters have multiple boxes to cross out, and only once you’ve crossed off their last box do you get their reward.

If a player is not able to cross out two boxes (combination of dungeon spaces and dealing damage to a monster) then they lose a life point.

The passive players (or in the case of solo play, the only person at the table) must use only the white dice to make their pairs, giving the active player the most flexibility each turn. It lets me focus on the strategy of navigating the dungeon and figuring out each one’s particular quirks. If you visit a room with a gold or gem, make a corresponding mark in the score area on the bottom of your sheet.

A game of Dungeons, Dice and Danger ends when the players collectively defeat all of the monsters on the map. Players normally make dice pairs with only the white dice each turn, but if you’re the Active Player you can also use the black die to make pairs and sums (so from a pool of five dice total). In solo mode, the player acts as if they’re always the passive player, only getting to use the black die 3 times (6 if they choose it as one of their treasures). Many games are ticketed as too much to play at one time, or having too many pieces, or too few pieces, or not enough strategy.

With more players, you can have a situation where all players focus on different Monsters and get through them pretty quickly, in which case, you’ll have a short game. Usually I have something pithy or topical about what I’m up to or what I’m planning, but I’ve been writing a lot this week and I think I’m hitting the intro paragraph limit?
