About this deal

After a tragedy, those with even the slightest connections to it often exaggerate their involvement and importance.” Grisham offers one tantalizing clue asPreacher Bell begs for his life: “If it’s about Liza, I can explain. No, Pete!”

John Ray Grisham Jr., popularly known as John Grisham, is an American attorney and award-winning author of legal thrillers, young adult and non-fiction books. The ensemble cast members all dutifully perform their roles, but there’s not much for them to sink their teeth into. Kirk snarls and heaves with the best of them, but her dialogue is all “I will endure all your torments” this and “You can tear my flesh, and break my bones, because I will not bear false witness” that. Pertwee, a champion scene-stealer, is also significantly hobbled by his pious character; his mustache-twirling speeches are all pained variations on “You’ve put me in a very ... difficult position” and “My will is greater than yours.” Note on the content: the story takes place during and post WWII with narrative taking place in both the American South and the Pacific Theater. Grisham wrote it to keep true to the attitudes and the dialogue of the time period. This means that some words and opinions are controversial and could be upsetting. If you are okay with prose content being raw for the sake of realism, you should be fine. But, if you think this might make you uncomfortable, approach with caution.Quincy was tried, convicted, and sent to prison for life. For twenty-two years he languished in prison, maintaining his innocence. But no one was listening. He had no lawyer, no advocate on the outside. In desperation, he writes a letter to Guardian Ministries, a small nonprofit run by Cullen Post, a lawyer who is also an Episcopal minister.

The problem with the Bataan section of the novel is that it’s too larded down with information cobbled from his reference sources, and it’s far too detailed in terms of physical suffering. It’s a fair bet that after endlessly recurring descriptions of diarrhea and beheadings, many readers won’t make it all the way to Part Three. The question of why Pete Banning shot the Reverend Dexter Bell is just not compelling enough to justify struggling through the middle portion of this book. Suspicions are easy enough, but proof seems impossible. The man is brilliant, patient, and always one step ahead of law enforcement. He is the most cunning of all serial killers. He knows forensics, police procedure, and most important: he knows the law. Bell froze and gawked in horror at the weapon and barely managed to say, “Pete, what are you doing?”
