About this deal

In the sequel, The Outlaw Varjak Paw (2005), the domineering "white cat with one eye", Sally Bones, invades the territories of other cats and ruling them with torture and terror, and Varjak leads the other cats – and some dogs – in the fight against her. In 2020, Blue Peter asked the audience to vote for their all-time favourite Blue Peter Book Award-winner, and The Outlaw Varjak Paw was included in the top ten. [10] S. F. Said has published three novels for children thus far. Varjak Paw tells the story of a Mesopotamian Blue cat called Varjak who leaves his sheltered upbringing to explore the city and learn the "Seven Skills of the Way", taught to him in dreams by his ancestor Jalal. In his dreams, Varjak finds himself transported from his gritty urban surroundings to the deserts, rivers and mountains of Mesopotamia (ancient Iraq). With the Skills, he is able to fight the Gentleman. Varjak was staged as a play by Playbox Theatre, [8] and was performed as an opera by The Opera Group in 2008. [9] Said wrote 17 drafts of the book. [6] Our favourite characters were Cludge (14 votes) Varjak (4 votes), Holly (3 votes) and one for scary Sally Bones!

If you could talk to the King Theobroma or President Thorntree about their war and the attitudes of their peoples to each other what would you say? And Marjane turns around, one last time, just one last moment, to see her mother crying her heart out and being helped away .I'm so glad to hear you enjoyed The Weirdstone Of Brisingamen! I hope you enjoy The Moon Of Gomrath too - it's a sequel, so it follows on straight away. I think it might be even better than the first one, but let me know what you think when you've had a chance to read it. As for drafts - every writer is different. Some need more than others. But all of us do more than one. All you can do is keep working on it until it's the very best you can possibly make it; until it's exactly what you would most want to read yourself. And I think it will be worth it, because you have some brilliant ideas.

This is Phoenix. This is Phoenix. I am sunk by this book and how underneath the layers of space and of aliens and of war, it is a book about humanity and hope and belief and of love. It is a book about being brave. It is a book about fighting for what you believe in. It is a book about hope. About faith. I absolutely adore this fascinating novel because it is filled with both excitement and adventure all in one book. I’m not particularly interested in space and astronomy and generally non-fiction subjects. However, this book intrigued me to start reading about the atmosphere and solar system. My favourite character from this imaginative tale is the warrior girl Bixa: she is a wonderful reliable friend, always there to help, even though she IS bossy at times! We understand you are very busy, however we would like to ask you some questions about Phoenix (if you have the time to respond).

Varjak Paw won the 2003 Smarties Prize for Children's Literature. Translated into fourteen languages, Varjak became a play, a musical, and even an opera. The sequel, The Outlaw Varjak Paw, won the Blue Peter Book Award in 2007. Both books are beloved in classrooms across the UK. I couldn't for the life of me imagine the aliens, nor the planets and stars, and this style of illustration definitely didn't help. I wish there was a map to follow and colorful, detailed drawings of places and characters, and events. For me at least, that'd have enriched the experience much more. Will you please come to our school? We really love “Varjak Paw.” Even though we haven’t finished the book yet, I really want to know the four other moves of “The Way”. It is so exciting! It is one of my favourite books and Mummy said she would get the other book for me too when I have finished. I think it is strange that every cat in the family names begins with the letter J, even Jalals. We wrote a chapter when Varjak met another 'monster' on the streets of the city at night for example, a rubbish lorry (Aran), a fox (Bernardo), a motorbike (Daniel), a fire engine (Sophia). Finally, having said all that - although the new project that I'm working on right now isn't a sequel to Phoenix, it does have a lot in common with it, and even grew out of it, in a way. The working title for this project is TYGER, and I think it's going to be the best thing I've ever written. Please do look out for it - I'm not sure when it will be finished, but I will definitely blog about it here when it is!

I have always loved your books, ever since Varjak Paw caught me and dragged me into the world of the "kung-fu cats" ,when I was 10. I could tell that I finally found the right author. Afterwards, I continued with The Outlaw Varjak Paw, then, Phoenix. I remember you recommending me to read Phoenix whilst waiting for your next book to come out. I have indeed read it, and many times, and could read it thousands of times without getting bored, but I just simply can't wait for your next book to pop out!At the moment we are writing speeches from the Paw family members about why they should stay in the Contessa’s house and why they should leave. Most people in my class think that they should leave, the other ones think that they should stay because the Contessa might not have died. An exciting and involved space adventure which engages with big themes . . . Atmospheric illustrations are a bonus. Peters Books
