About this deal

Is that worth 500 euros more ? it all depends of what you do but for 80% of the users the Samyang will be “good enough” Les ronds de Bokeh sont très bons: bien circulaires au centre, mais tronqués sur les bords (cat’s eye). Il y a de très légères traces de tranches d’oignons mais rien de dérangeant On the 61mpix of the A7RIV, the lens offers very good performance in the centre but will require to be closed to F4 to reach excellence

The lens supports autofocus via a linear stepping motor, which Samyang says provides both accuracy and high-speed responsiveness when shooting both photos and videos. It also has a relatively short minimum focusing distance of 0.33 meters (about 13 inches) at 35mm and 0.85 meters (about 33.5 inches) at 150mm. Thanks to the latest optical design of 21 elements in 18 groups and featuring an optimal combination of 2 ASP, 1 HB, 3 HR and 6 ED elements the lens presents superior optical performance throughout the entire zoom range. When combined with Sony’s full-frame image sensor, the AF 35-150mm F2-2.8 FE delivers high image quality to the edges of the frame with plenty of contrast. The Samyang’s optical design consists of 21 elements in 18 groups, with a choice of exotic glass. The lens is weatherproof with gaskets around all rotating parts and a gasket around the bayonet. The lens comes with a tulip-shaped lens hood. Focus Photo: Alyssa Zalabai

The two round buttons made of soft rubber have a focus save function which can store 2 points of focus. In addition, three custom mode switches on the lens can be pre-programmed via the optional Lens Station, allowing you to set up the mode to suit your preference. Samyang’s AF 35-150mm f/2.0-2.8 FE is both ‘everyday’ and exotic. Also available under the Rokinon range, the focal range initially looks to be quite conservative until you appreciate that it spans a whole bunch of classic focal lengths – 35mm, 50mm, 90mm (for photographers, 85mm for video-makers), 135mm and 150mm – with, of course, all points in between. It’s a lot more versatile that you might initially think, made more so by the fast maximum aperture range of f/2.0 to f/2.8 which is advantageous for low-light shooting as well for using selective focusing via the shallow depth-of-field, especially at the shorter focal lengths. The ‘FE’ designation in the model number indicates that the mount is for Sony’s full-frame Alpha series bodies, but now that Samyang has joined the L Mount Alliance, it’s not unreasonable to expect a version in this fitting will arrive at some point. The Samyang AF 35-150mm F2-2.8 FE has a maximum aperture of F2 at its widest and F2.8 at the telephoto end, which covers the five main focal lengths (35/50/85/135/150). With its wide zoom range, the lens is designed as a fast all-rounder that covers a broad range of shooting scenarios, from portraits to travel. The premium design and performance of 2nd Generation lenses have been applied to the lens, and it also supports the key features of recent Sony mirrorless bodies, including Hybrid AF, Eye AF, Direct Manual Focus (DMF), and the AF assist function. Covering everything between 35mm and 150mm

The best standpoint from which to appreciate the full view of a subject is the distance of the diagonal length of the subject frame. This wider angle is superior to standing closer at a 50 degree angle to get a more detailed view. AF is very fast accurate and silent both in photo and video in most of the cases , and works very well in burst mode (but limited to 10fps on Sony A1) For still images, keeping a distance equal to the diagonal length of the full image surface is recommended. The full frame sensor of a digital camera is 36 x 24mm and the diagonal length is 43.26mm so any distance close to this number is nearer to the ideal than the currently accepted industry standard of 50mm. I do 90% of my event photography with the Tamron 35-150/2-2.8, and I've been keeping an eye on Samyang's new challenger since it is considerably cheaper. Very good results overall, but corners are a bit soft at F2 and you clearly see an improvement when closing down. So for max consistency across the frame use F5.6/F8

Considering the users’ shooting environment, the lens is designed to be completely weather sealed at the mount and throughout the body. Weather sealing is adopted in 11 areas to prevent damage or contamination from dust, light rain, and snow. Possibilité de transformer la bague de mise au point en bague d’ouverture pour la vidéo (mode 2 en AF)

Key Features:

Fast and quiet auto focus: the Samyang AF 35-150 mm lens has a fast, quiet and precise LSTM autofocus that is perfect for photos and videos. It also supports modern camera functions such as Hybrid AF, Eye AF and AF Assist function. MTF curves of the Samyang AF 35-150mm F2.0-2.8 FE are not yet available. Looking at the available high-resolution imagery of this lens, we see decent resolution, little to no chromatic aberrations and at full aperture a nice blur, which of course you would actually expect from a lens with such high brightness. For further judgment, we will have to wait until we can test this lens extensively ourselves. Photo: Andrei Coste Samyang has moved a step forward with its innovative second-zoom lens to provide a more convenient user experience. The lens is remarkably versatile as an all-in-one lens with fast maximum apertures and provides a solution for photographers seeking to avoid lens changing. It was clearly designed for a portrait photographer, but the wide zoom range is also useful for everyone shooting commercials, events and travel imagery.
