About this deal

But this did not prepare me for the pain and heart-aching beauty that came with the conclusion of this story. This story isn’t just a love story between two teenagers, but it’s a love story between a father and his daughter, navigating their broken relationship through the tale of Atlantis. This, like the other books, dealt with more serious topics as well, anxiety and mental illness in this case, and that was something I enjoyed. Her dad’s teenage film assistant, Theo, helps Liv navigate these feelings, while the two try to calm the chemistry between them. There were reasons in the story that made it a “good thing” that he had that footage, that’s still not okay.

Olive gets off a plane ride that's probably like 20ish hours long to meet a father who abandoned her to go pursue his dream of Atlantis. Olive is swept away to Santorini after receiving a postcard from her estranged father asking for her help with a new project. When Liv receives a postcard from her father inviting her to Greece to help him with his documentary, she is hesitant to reconnect with him. I thought it was so sweet how he tried to help grow and foster a relationship between the two of them, counseling with them both when he could tell they needed it.She’s got a great sense of style, she’s a talented artist, and she is surprisingly chill about solo international travel at such a young age. It was Maya Nakamura, a girl from Dax’s graduating class, looking all kinds of sporty in her pink sports bra and leggings.

When she isn’t writing girl abroad stories, Jenna can be found chasing her children or making elaborate messes in the kitchen. And I think it's those same experiences that made me feel very, profoundly sad about some things in this book.It was nice to see cameos of different characters, but I couldn’t help but see how Love and Olives was literally a carbon copy of Love and Gelato. Theo really grew on me by the end- even though it took some time for me to get past his forwardness 😂. She also thought she’d signed divorce papers when the graduation caps were tossed, and they both went on their merry ways.

As someone who didn't know their father until I was 13 and who also feels like a troll after any flight. I’ve always loved to snack on olives (the fact that I felt like I had my own personal olive brand possibly had something to do with that).

Luckily, once in Santorini, Greece, Liv and her dad have everyone on the island as a buffer- especially the attractive camera man and friend also on the project, Theo. It was hard for me to enjoy good and happy moments when I felt stressed out about all of the unfinished, ignored conversations that should have at least been somewhat touched on! But is a buffer enough as the two of them spend more time together and begin to wonder if reconciliation is possible. I really didn’t like that he filmed her without her permission and ignored her when she asked him to stop. From their first meet-cute to them sleeping in the same cramped attic-like setup on separate beds less than a few feet away from each other and breaking into a building to use the pool, it’s clear that Liv and Theo have…some kind of attraction for each other that both of them continue to deny by bringing up Dax right as something is going to happen between the two.

Although hunting for Atlantis made me hesitant about this book at first, I adored how it was woven into this story. She also has to admit that she too was always interested in Atlantis because it was something they bonded over. There are so many questions, so many emotions that flood to the surface after seeing her father for the first time in years. As his lies begin to catch up with him, Sunny Dae is forced to wonder whether it was all worth it—and if it’s possible to ever truly change.
