About this deal

Just be cautious before use in extended downpours, and make sure to spray the tent with an extra waterproof coating on a regular basis. If you go for the upgraded version, you’ll have a second vent in the sleeping compartment, which will reduce condensation and cool down your tent in the summer. It would also be a good choice for an adult and a dog. Just watch the dog’s claws on the tent floor because they’ll shred it if they’re not clipped short! Wet Environment:Wet ground or wet gear stored inside the tent. While no tent design can eliminate condensation, the key to reducing it is ventilation. Cooler, drier air has to flow into your tent and warm, moist air must escape. We have designed a variety of ways to do this.

Hey folks. This week on the blog, we’re taking a look at one of Naturehike’s 4-season tents: T he Naturehike Star River 2. The Star River looks capable of keeping you dry and warm in most conditions, so we thought it was about time to give our two cents. Let’s dive in and take a look at the specs. Design & Materials The outer fly is made from 20D Nylon, with a hydrostatic head rating of 4000mm. Although this is better than the more standard 2000mm, it’s still a little short of the 5000mm that some other 4-season tents offer. Still, it should be enough for all but the very wettest weather. The specs above both apply to the green and grey versions of the tent. The orange version is made of 210T Polyester, with a 3000mm head. The poles and pegs are both made of Aluminium. Size & Weight Most of the time it's only going to be me, but I do prefer to have a bit more room in my tent, thus looking at 2-person options and don't mind too much the extra weight. The guy lines will also stop the wet rainfly from flapping, which can bring moisture into your sleeping compartment. Durability So far I've narrowed down my search to these three tents but found a few concerns with each of them and I'm curious to hear if anyone else has had those issues and which of the three options would you recommend. There are also two separate doors, so you don’t have to climb over your tent buddy to come and go. This makes a huge difference when you are sharing a space. At 2.6 kg, this tent is a little heavy for hiking. It’ll be fine for weekend trips but it’s not the best choice for long-distance thru-hiking. It would certainly be a fantastic choice for bike touring, though it’d be a good idea to share the tent weight with the person you’ll be sleeping next to. With a waterproof coating of up to 3000mm, the Cloud Up 2 is slightly less water-resistant than the Cloud Up 1. That said, 3000mm is more than enough for most camping conditions, especially if you correctly pitch out the guy lines to prevent moisture from transferring to the inner tent. I've bought a few other items from Naturehike - lightweight aluminium structure camping chairs etc, and they've also been really good. I'll look at doing a more comprehensive review when I've really put them hard through their paces. So far, impressed. The sleeping area can get quite hot and stuffy in the summer months.

Technical specs are the usual: 20d ripstop nylon with a PU4000mm waterproofness, 7001 aluminum poles, and stakes. Naturehike’s dimensions suggest the Star River 2 is slightly longer than the other two tents, but we are not convinced. Naturehike give 215cm length for both inner and outer. However, the inner length is obviously less than the outer length on a double skin tent. We’d say the inner is about 210cm in reality, which is the same as the Cloud Up 2 and the Mongar 2. You can also take down your tent in the daytime and pitch it again just before the evening. This prevents heat from building up throughout the day. What I Love About the Naturehike Star River 2 Like many Chinese brands, Naturehike started as a manufacturer and supplier for western brands that delocalized their production to China. When it comes to weight, this is going to depend on which version of the tent you go for. The green and grey versions both weigh in at 2.1 kg. If you want the version with the snow skirt, that bumps the weight to 2.25kg. The orange, with its 210T Polyester design, weighs in at 2.35kg. 2.35kg grams is a little on the heavy side for my liking – even for a 2-man, 4-season tent. 2.1kg grams seems pretty reasonable though – we’ve certainly seen less capable tents that weigh a lot more. So you might be best served by ditching the snow skirt, unless you really need it.It's the only one that comes in a forest green color, which makes it a better choice for wild camping.
