About this deal

You’ll need a little time to fiddle with the power and connection cables, running them into the gaps around the edges of your windscreen using the small plastic crowbar tool provided. Cable has a micro usb connector rather than USB-C so may become an issue if you move the camera between cars as micro usb can easily be damaged. In early January 2023, a representative from MIOFIVE reached out to me to see if I was interested in testing/reviewing their "MIOFIVE Dash Cam Dual" 2-channel dash camera. Just so you know, whilst we may receive a commission or other compensation from the links on this page, we never allow this to influence product selections – read why you should trust us.

Thinkware, on the other hand, only provides a 150º degree front view and 156º rear view wide-angle for its dual-channel system. With the it installed – a job for a professional, really – the camera has a continual power source, even when the car isn’t on.

It would have been great if the rear camera’s cable was the same diameter as the one for the front camera. This screen is mainly for setting up the camera because once it’s up and running after about a minute, it turns itself off with a reassuring American voice telling you “Miofive continues to serve”. I found the setting off warning completely consistent and reliable, but over a couple of weeks’ driving I never heard the stop reminder. This also explains why many dash cams produce similar quality videos – they’re all generally using the same hardware.

There’s also a parking mode, where the camera wakes up and records if the g-sensor is disturbed in any way. Also, macOS did not like the Miofive, saying that the disk was not readable despite identifying it as exFAT. You can change your choices at any time by visiting Cookie preferences, as described in the Cookie notice. This directory appears to contain the video files that were recording in "Normal" mode but an impact event took place. The date/time values when files are first created will often have a 2 to 7 second difference between the front and rear video files.I've been using a dashcam from Chinese-owned brand Miofive for around a year now, in my wife's BMW, and I'm still impressed. All in all, I found the Miofive easy to live with; it was there when I needed it and quiet and still working when I didn’t.

If, like me, you find the voice notifications annoying, they can be silenced, and you can also mute the microphone if you’d rather not have the audio from your recordings. Insurance companies and the police love these devices and so do motorists who value having proof of what happened. The only way to view recordings on a computer is to download them to your phone, then find and copy them in a file app to a cloud or network drive, from which you can transfer them to a PC.Only negative is the voice talking to you at certain situations ie when you do a sharp or sudden turn - telling you to drive safe. It’s a better way of fixing – and much easier to remove – than simply sticking a mount to the windscreen, and it also came in handy while I perfected the dash cam’s aim.

You might not like the idea of the dash cam recording you singing along to the radio, but audio can be an important part of video evidence, depending on the incident. From “Hi, Miofive is here for you” every time it boots, through “Miofive continues to serve” when the screen powers down, to its various AI assistance prompts, you’ll hear a lot from it while driving. I wouldn't have even noticed issues 1 and 2, if not the fact I needed an emergency recording from the camera which wasn't recorded as emergency, but as it turned out the specific 17 seconds I needed disappeared.
