Old Speckled Hen Ale is a traditional English ale that has been popular since its introduction by the Greene King Brewery in 1979. The latest addition to Greene King's range of Hen beers, this limited edition ale is bottle conditioned and brewed with malt, hops, pure water and yeast. These items are usually delivered within 24 hours, but this can vary (anywhere up to 10 working days), and is unfortunately beyond our control.barrels, 1200 dozen half-pints bottles, were produced, mostly for the promotional activities at MG, but also for limited distribution to Morland houses in the Abingdon area.

Old Speckled Hen was first brewed in 1979 in Abingdon-on-Thames, Oxfordshire in England, to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the MG car factory there on 30 November 1979. Terry and his team were responsible for rebranding bitter as 1711 (the year of Morland's foundation) and best bitter as 'Old Masters' (a nod to George Morland, a renowned artist and painter).

Upon acquiring Morland, Greene King almost immediately decided to place emphasis on multi packs, rather than the sale of individual bottles and cans. Whether you're a fan of traditional English ales or just looking for a delicious, full-flavored beer, Old Speckled Hen is an excellent choice. Whilst we endeavour to make sure that glass bottles are packed as well as possible we cannot send out replacement for any breakages.

This has continued to modern day, with a huge choice of styles from brewers all over the country found across our beer range. Daniel O'Leary ( brewer and former cooper), had developed the recipe for a private beer in his garden shed in Abingdon and the recipe was then used when the brewery decided to release a celebration beer for the MG anniversary. Brewed with Pale and Crystal malts alongside Challenger, First Gold and Goldings hops, Old Speckled Hen Low Alcohol attempts to evoke the tastes and aromas of the original Old Speckled Hen but with low ABV. Its rich amber colour and superb fruity aromas are complemented by a delicious blend of malty tastes.NOTE: Equipment for fermentation/brewing and storage/dispensing is not included and should be bought separately. The Hen has been exported to over 40 countries, including Singapore, where 200 pints a day are sold in a single pub. Named after the factory’s test car which was once spattered in paint to try a new concept, it was brewed to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the MG car factory. The hops used to make Old Speckled Hen are carefully selected to provide a delicate balance of bitterness and aroma, while the malt gives the beer its rich, full flavor.
