Sometimes it disappears and sometimes it doesn't show at all but if it appears (yellow) it's always the same coded which I read it out with my OBD2 scanner and on the photo I attached. The wires are not long (their length is 70cm), heat capacity via wires can not reach such high values for wires to start to burn.

IF there was nothing else on the diagnostic aside from the NOx sensor, then you'd be daft to not change it to at least rule out what the diagnostic has confirmed as a certain failure. I replied that my question was simple from my perspective, the engine light comes on and I want a diagnosis from proper BMW software as to why but now I feel they're essentially telling me they need to tackle the fuel pressure sensor first before they can further diagnose? Complication in a nutshell is (I will GP come back to it in detail later when requured) is that I need to take the car with me for a visit to my home in The Netherlands this Friday and will as such do 1000-1500 miles in two weeks.I just came of the phone with them and they said 'it's the fuel pressure sensor and every other fault codes follows from here'. To cause permanent damage to the wires, the temperature should reach several thousands of oC, which means – their conductor (metal) should start to melt.

When you say white smoke, how much are we talking, and when does it happen (ie: when the car is cold or hot, etc)? I had the same diagnostic done and was told it was the nox sensor my car is a 118i first thing on a morning it is very sluggish and makes a loud noise like a bad Diesel engine then after 30 seconds it jerks the warning light comes on then it runs fine. Finance is provided by PayPal Credit (a trading name of PayPal UK Ltd, Whittaker House, Whittaker Avenue, Richmond-Upon-Thames, Surrey, United Kingdom, TW9 1EH). Let’s see the next possible scenario – the wires have burned due to the impact of the extremely high outside temperature.

off I should state this is a family members car, I've been trawling the web trying to find the info required and and just hopeing that people can Confirm what I need to no. Especially since the advertisement stated they've done extensive work on it like an oil change, rebalancing and a '250 point' checkup? I'm no expert by any means and it's my first BMW but to me it seems it's a faulty NOx sensor or probe. He said not to worry about it as long as the car runs fine and emissions are passing MOT, this was not a necessary repair.

So, assuming your mechanic has proper diagnostic abilities, he/it has told you the NOx sensor is buggered.

d. have to assume that there would be a short-circuit in the probe because, in a normal situation, the current via the heating element of the probe is only around 1. I'm not in the habit of rushing into a forum but for reasons I'll explain tomorrow I can use all the the advice I can get asap. There can be several reasons – increased oil consumption of the engine, some fuel additives, water in the exhaust, and some mechanical contamination.
