Argy Bargy are a streetpunk band from Watford whose NEC appearance is just one of a handful of gigs they’re playing this year.Because you can’t tell the whole truth and keep cutting bits out of it – I’m hoping that they will understand that, shall we say, there’s a happy ending! Thankfully, Animal (real name Nick Culmer) has recovered enough to be able to perform, and played his comeback gig last weekend. We were back heavy into drugs and stuff again, and it was the same old thing: I was trying to escape from the bikes. Because, obviously, we came in when punk music came back in with its second wave – should we say – of 1980, with The Exploited and GBH and all this, the aggressive, grungy side of punk. When I came back from Canada – I lived in the Rocky Mountains [there] for a bit and actually I was living a bit hippyish, but [when I got back] I actually found me a lot more [things to do] in life than getting into too much trouble. Me, in my bike days, listening to Lynyrd Skynyrd, going along to see Genesis and that, it never made me think, ‘cor, fuck me, I want to be in a band.Our sets are slightly restricted, as there are certain songs we simply can’t play due to Nick’s restricted vocal range, and thus will likely be a little shorter than we normally do.

The only difficult side of it is, there’s so many lyrics – and my brain isn’t as big as it used to be. Frontman and lead singer Nick Culmer, better known by his stage name Animal, of English punk group Anti-Nowhere League performs live on stage at The 1865 venue in Southampton.It’s just Nick in my book, and you’ll read in there that I really didn’t like ‘Animal’, right from the first. One large piece (4cm) missed his main artery by millimetres, he was told he is very lucky to be alive. This line-up released the band's fifth studio album, Kings and Queens in 2005, which was released on the Captain Oi!
