This is the third Grann book I've read this year — I also recommend Killers of the Flower Moon and The Devil and Sherlock Holmes — and I've become such a fan of Grann's work that I'll happily read his future books. In 1925, amid a great flurry of media attention, he, his young son, Jack, and Jack's schoolfriend, Raleigh Rimell, set off to locate Z. I highly recommend this book for fans of "Indiana Jones," early 20th century history stories, and just those tired of sitting on their lounger at home and wondering whether or not they should drop everything and run off into the jungle. You can find a bit of similarity to the famous biography of Christopher McCandless, and that’s where the tale shines, too.
