About this deal

For more about The Lord of the Rings: The Motion Picture Trilogy and the The Lord of the Rings: The Motion Picture Trilogy Blu-ray release, see the The Lord of the Rings: The Motion Picture Trilogy Blu-ray Review published by Kenneth Brown on June 17, 2011 where this Blu-ray release scored 5. Assisted by a Fellowship of heroes, Frodo Baggins plunges into a perilous trek to take the mystical One Ring to Mount Doom so that it and its magical powers can be destroyed and never possessed by evil Lord Sauron. The Extended editions are great but after looking at fellowship for quite a while I noticed that the remnants of how the film was to go together or fit together are quite obvious and it’s not how the extended edition is presented.

I also got a bit tired of the constant contrast between the wonderfully vivid, colorful moments and those that are obviously afflicted by some excessive color change stigma. Whilst I don’t have the new Release I did see screencaps for the Gift Giving when they leave lothlorien an it was one of the very few instances where I felt ok that looks better what do you reckon on the new grade on the gift gibig scene? The beauty is that while there are a number of smaller extensions, everything fits coherently, and the narrative structure of the film remains intact, with no odd moments feeling out of place, thrown in for the sake of. The LOTR films have a green tint (Fellowship is the worst) and the new remastered have changed the colour of the LOTR movies to match the look of the Hobbit films. The varying color schemes, from the greens of nature to the grays and whites of cityscapes, as well as the browns and blacks near Mordor, all come through brilliantly, vividly, and make the aesthetic changes obvious and wonderful to stare at. Close ups are absolutely superb, and picture depth is no slouch this time around, with amazing clarity on tap readily and constantly. It's nice, though, to see white, white snows and azure skies, as they're such beauties to behold when they're the right color.

Suffice it to say, with so much ground to cover, there simply isn't a more efficient and thorough way to cover the full 15-disc Extended Edition release. It's funny how they always work out in the end, and no featured gift or offering goes without purpose or point in the grand scheme. EDITOR'S NOTE - 6/27/11 - A few of you may be aware that there's been some controversy regarding screenshots and the color timing of the new 2K-remastered presentation of Fellowship of the Ring. These Appendices discs are essentially identical to the discs included in the 4-disc DVD sets, right down to the menus and all features.Miranda Otto is a pleasure as Eowyn, the strongest female character in the trilogy, as she feels like a new focal point, easily the most important new character, more so than her brother, the banished Eomer (Karl Urban). For the week that ended on March 20th, Universal Pictures Home Entertainment's The Croods: A New Age topped both the Blu-ray-only and overall packaged media charts for the fourth week in a row, with Sony Pictures Home Entertainment's Monster Hunter coming in second . As with Part I, this is essentially a "down to the last detail" duplicate of The Appendices, Part 2: From Vision to Reality disc in the previous Extended Edition DVD release. The sharp clangs of sword on sword, the cold thumps of bodies hitting the ground, the whizz of arrows swooping across the room at any given angle, the thunder beneath a massive creature's footstep, the haunting melodies, the sharp spikes of victorious yells and screams, the screeching of the undead, the rumble of a volcano. The adventure continues with THE LORD OF THE RINGS trilogy when, with the help of the Fellowship of the Ring, Bilbo Baggin’s nephew, Frodo, embarks on a perilous mission to destroy the One Ring and defeat the Dark Lord Sauron and his forces.

The box opens to reveal a handsome map of Middle-earth, three individual standard-sized Blu-ray cases, and authorization codes for downloading a digital copy of the extended cut of each film (offer expires in June of 2012). Nevertheless, we are told that the filmmakers have checked the discs and confirmed this is the intended look.

From the start, we see an extension of the Smeagol/Deagol scene, making the choking death scene much more graphic and intense. In that sense, 'The Lord of the Rings' isn't all that different than 'Star Wars,' save for the fact that each new habitat is on the same planet, rather than one per each varied area. For the third time, a Rings movie was a Best Picture Academy Award® nominee and for the first time it claimed that prize (plus 10 more).
