About this deal

Chernev presents classic games by players such as Capablanca, Tarrasch, and Alekhine to repeatedly demonstrate the advantages gained by efficient development and strong positional play. I think, without being sure, when I read in my book, Silman-The Amateurs Mind I only move the mainlines, but reading all.

Perhaps it isn't as timeless as it once appeared to me, but it should prove useful to any aspiring player wanting to better understand how to develop logical plans, moves, and thought processes in chess.

and other times he's like "obviously, moving the pawn in front of castled king is right thing to do, always create opportunities" blah blah. It would be quite instructive to the novice player if Chernev pointed out these blunders, but he doesn't.

Sicilian defense (answering E4 with C5 offers counterattacking play especially on opponent too hellbent on kingside attack). Look at squares to protect rather than pieces, then whenever you need to move a piece into strategic squares there’s already defense laid long ago. The only downside to this book is that nearly every game ends in a tactical checkmate with many pieces still on the board. WARNING make sure you get the correct edition as there are older editions which have the Descriptive (English) Notation.I used Chernev's book "Logical Chess" 45 years ago when I was a kid trying to improve my game, and now as I am trying to re-learn the game, an e-book copy of "Logical Chess" is as clear and helpful as it was when I was young.

Unfortunately I didn't spot this, not starting to read the book until more than 60 days from puchasing si unable to request refund from vendor. We don’t share your credit card details with third-party sellers, and we don’t sell your information to others. There are also diagrams every few moves, showing the current postions of all the pieces, so you can not only get a better idea of where the pieces are, but can check you have made the right moves if you are playing these games on your own board. To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Does anyone know if the book is available as a real chess e-book somewhere (something like Forward Chess where a board is built into the book)? Some great many years later, after having not looked at a chessboard in over 30 years, I decided to take up the game again, but this time I aim to learn to play it properly.
