About this deal

We start teaching phonics in Reception and follow the Little Wandle Letters and Sounds Revised progression, which ensures children build on their growing knowledge of the alphabetic code, mastering phonics to read and spell as they move through school. Teachers will ensure children have a balance of skills across the week and over each term so that they have opportunities to develop their complete reading skills. Finance is provided by PayPal Credit (a trading name of PayPal UK Ltd, Whittaker House, Whittaker Avenue, Richmond-Upon-Thames, Surrey, United Kingdom, TW9 1EH). These fully decodable readers support the DfE validated SSP programme at Phase 4 of Little Wandle Letters and Sounds Revised. By the end of Year 1, children will have been taught all of the phonemes and graphemes in the English language and should be able to decode and read any word.

Children leave Key Stage 2 as competent readers with a shared love of stories and a secure understanding of what they have read. Sessions take place daily with a balance of child-led and adult-led experiences supporting all children in meeting the curriculum expectations for ‘Communication and Language’ and ‘Literacy’.We encourage reading for pleasure through children having a choice of challenging and enriching texts as well as building in time for children to read independently and as part of a whole class.

This could be done by using pictures, missing words in sentences, fill in the missing sounds, make words with the sound using letters displayed. There will be an exciting mix of stories and non-fiction to foster a love of reading in all children. The first 5 weeks recap Phase 5 Phonics, the next 5 weeks teach bridging to spelling and the last 20 weeks are based around spelling.

In the meantime, reading a variety of other books is widening his exposure to new words so that can only be a good thing I guess! Ad an observation, the blue band books we’ve had home do seem very short compared to some of the other reading schemes. There are also some useful videos so you can see how they are taught at school and feel confident about supporting their reading at home.

These children urgently need to catch up, so the gap between themselves and their peers does not widen. By bidding on, or purchasing this item, you are agreeing to us sharing your name and address details with that 3rd party supplier to allow us to fulfil our contractual obligations to you.It comprises of classroom resources to support the Little Wandle Letters and Sounds Revised SSP and a range of phonic readers that together provide a consistent and highly effective approach to teaching phonics. My DS is currently reading at the hardest end of Phase 2 (summer born reception) which probably equates to the easier end of red books using the list someone linked earlier. Apply - The children will have a go at reading or writing sentences of words that involve the new sound/word they have just learned.
