About this deal

When I finally picked it up I found a gentle and charming story about an elderly gentleman, Anthony, who collected and catalogued items, found and presumed lost. I would describe the novel as a modern day fairy tale in which fantastical events intertwine all of the characters and their fates. Our team is made up of book lovers who are dedicated to sourcing and providing the best books for kids. What a horrendous sentence to impose upon the character, whose sole purpose *seems* to have been to provide some comedy for the woeful characters that were her 'friends' - such as best friend and 'heroine' Laura who mocks her, hides from her in the larder and, at no point I would argue, is likeable in any sense.

I found it to have a slow story line and then within 3 chapters of the end the 2 storylines merged together quite quickly. Anthony, for a very personal cause, has collected these objects for 40 years since his wife passed away, and following his own death requests the endeavour be taken up by his assistant Laura.Ruth Hogan successfully intertwined a number of different stories, including a selection of short stories. The background and interaction with the characters in the story add wonderful perspectives, especially with Sunshine. An example of where we felt there could have been more depth was with Laura and Vince's confrontation. One reader suggested that as well as ‘lost things’, the people who arrived at the house were also lost in some aspect of their lives and were looking for new beginnings. Psychological realism, whimsy and magic are a winning combination in this quirky, exquisitely crafted novel.

But working for Anthony has started to give the meaning which she adores; helping him with day to day living and dealing with his paper work. Hogan's writing has the soothing warmth of the cups of cocoa and tea her characters regularly dispense. As a reader who is enamored with stories told within stories, I can appreciate how this book contained a multitude. Now, with her own end drawing near, she has lost something precious—a tragic twist of fate that forces her to break a promise she once made. She then added more than a few eccentrics, a feisty spirit and a sweet innocent by the name of Sunshine whom you will come to love, and gave us a story brimming with wit, wisdom and charm galore. The unique theme focuses on a very intriguing obsession of hoarding lost objects - not in a manner similar to Museum of Innocence, which was for personal indulgence, but in the hope that the items could be reunited with their owners.

By far the most AWFUL part of the book was Sunshine, the 'dancing drome' character with Down Syndrome. We work closely with publishers and authors to ensure that we offer the best books on the market for your child. For ten years I had a successful if uninspiring career in local government before a car accident left me unable to work full-time and was the kick up the butt I needed to start writing seriously. Realising he is running out of time, he leaves his house and all its lost treasures to his assistant Laura, the one person he can trust to reunite the thousands of objects with their rightful owners. Violence: Some of the short stories are quite dark and there is some implied violence lurking behind the scenes. Please tell me I’m not the only reader with this issue as I already have too many as it is (books AND issues).

First off I must be honest even though I was excited to read The Keeper Of Lost Things I was however a bit worried it was going to be a bit depressing but how wrong I was! The title is bold white font in the centre of the cover and Ruth’s name is in a smaller white font at the bottom of the cover. He knows too well the pain of losing something dear, and knows the value in having something to hold onto. Many tiny stories that go along with the lost things are also scattered at random through the main narrative.
