Only comparable to the other Monty Don's book 'The complete gardener', which is a good addition to this. I’ve not so far had the opportunity to go through the book, but from the quick look through it, I’m sure I’m going to enjoy it and learn lots. Following the cycle of the seasons, Gardening at Longmeadow will introduce readers to the garden from the earliest snowdrops of January through the first splashes of colour in the Spring Garden, the electric summer displays of the Jewel Garden, the autumn harvest in the orchard, and on to a Christmas feast sourced from the vegetable gardens. He has been lead presenter of Gardeners' World since 2003 and since 2011 the programme has come from his own garden, Longmeadow, in Herefordshire. It has all Monty’s tips and essential pieces of knowledge; and also shares his view that gardening is the secret to living well.this is when the falling light levels coupled with heat make the rich colours like plum, caramel, purple and ruby red glow richly. The book starts with an introduction to Longmeadow, with Monty describing how it was a complete blank canvas of farmyard and fields when they first moved there and how he has tried to create a garden that works with nature and sits happily in the landscape. His passion for gardening and the natural world are evident and he has the ability to make ordinary, daily events in the garden seem magical.

He touches on a little of every topic a gardener can hope for, each one packed generously with know how. It’s hard to pick a favorite between this and Down to Earth, both are equally good for their own reasons. But over the past ten years it has slowly evolved into a traditional, but essentially floral, cottage garden, filled with blowsy, soft colours but also containing fruit trees, rhubarb, gooseberries and some herbs all mingled in together.
