About this deal

Indeed, you just need to look at them to see that they’re a beautifully designed pair of boots, with their oil-tanned brown leather offering a gorgeous and adventurous aesthetic. The Adventure Dry is a pretty tough and rugged boot, but it treads a fine line between the road and the rough stuff. I bought these as we are heading into cold winter biking season and needed a pair of sturdy waterproof boots to survive winter biking in Scotland.

I usually struggle with boots that are supposed to support the foot and the leg – skating or ski boots, for example – and can generally only wear them for 30 minutes or so without them beginning to hurt. My Adventure boots after a few nights in front of the fire started to split, but Terra no longer have that problem. There is a Drytex waterproof and breathable liner to keep water out but allow the foot to breathe and there is TPU protection on the ankle and a large section on the shin. I've never had a problem with gear shifting on my V Strom, I just needed to remember to drop my foot a bit lower to get it under the gear lever, but that is what I had to do with my last adventure boots too. The boots have TPU shin and ankle protection to ensure they keep you supported at this vulnerable area.Adventure boots are designed for road or dirt road riding, which is what 99% of ADV riders do, and these boots perform and protect better on a road or hard surface.

They are formed in oiled leather with suede areas and there are concertina sections in the front and the back to allow the foot to move forwards and backwards on the brake and gear pedals. The Evos allowed my foot to rotate inside the boot to some degree reducing the amount of torsion force applied to my bones. Slide your feet inside the polymer, memory foam inner and overtime the padding will mould to their shape for a comfortable, supported environment. And you get some elasticated shirring at the top of the shaft for a bit of extra comfort as you lean into the boot. The Evo feel lighter and tighter than the regular Terras and I think this hinge mechanism will prevent the boot from sagging with age as the previous models did. I looked very carefully at the Terra EVO and decided to eventually go with the Alpinestars Toucan, just a little bit more MX and slightly more rigid.

The Forma brand is now recognized as one of the most innovative brands in the motorcycle boot business. They allow little feel of the controls, the rider has slower reaction time due to extra weight, and the boots actually carry more velocity for longer due to the extra weight meaning a harder impact. I agree totally about the soft sole problem on the basic Forma boot and the drawbacks of using MX boots for touring road/off-road.

Romania (part of EU) was chosen as during Communism, it featured the greatest production of soldier’s boots for the entire communist area, so skilled labour was easy to find. Also there is little or no heel impact absorption from the rear (important for high-side landings), and they don’t allow your lower legs to flex and rotate naturally causing spiral fractures + upper tib/fib fractures + busted knees. From the Atlantic to the Pacific and back, my experience with the Forma Adventure boots was nothing short of amazing! Despite looking chunky, getting them on is easy; the lining is soft and supple and the waterproof gusset has plenty of give to let you slide your feet in easily.

The bottom buckle may often trap small twigs or pieces of dirt - a Polyurethene deflector in a triangle shape - is fitted to ensure this doesn't happen. I love this style of boot for road riding with an old school look, might look a bit silly with race leathers though. And sure, because they are more rigid they are not as comfortable to walk in as the Adventure boots, but still not as stiff as MX boots would be. Since that time Forma has continued to grow and currently the brand is sold in more than 60 countries worldwide with a solid and consolidated distribution network. I was reliably informed that they would bed in very quickly but from the off they were extremely comfy with a good padded interior.

The heel cup and toe box are similarly soft, which adds to comfort, but detracts from the overall foot protection on offer. Bryn has been with ABR since day one, though he took a year-long hiatus in 2011 to ski rep in Meribel. TPU protectors are fitted in the shins and ankles and a strong double density compound rubber sole ensures improved grip and durability in all riding conditions. I quickly got used to the “stiffness” and to be honest I rode and walked in them from morning to evening and they were just fine in terms of comfort. But the boots in my size are definitely too high and massiv at the front as well as too stiff, so I wouldn’t be able to manage gear shifting quickly and comfortable.
