About this deal

I loved the illustrations- they were a mix of vibrant shades of all the colors and the starkness of black and white.

I’m not the biggest fan of books designed “to teach a lesson”, but this one did it so succinctly and simply, I see it as a favorite of school counselors for years to come. One of the best tools that we can give our children is to help them identify how they are feeling, and then to make a good choice around how they can manage that, so that they can feel better. If a child is too angry to place the pom poms in the jar in the first place have them throw the pom poms into the jar; it will help them work off some frustration. Each jar holds 101 little cards printed with "feelings words": gleeful, insecure, grateful, angry, cranky, courageous, hopeful, and many more.

Turning off the personalised advertising setting won’t stop you from seeing Etsy ads, but it may make the ads you see less relevant or more repetitive. At home, we use some very physical movement activities which help my boys to get rid of agitation and frustration in a sensory way. Each emotion has its own color -- black for scared, pink for joy, red for anger, yellow for excited. I may read this with my young human to see how he responds, but I'm a little bit worried that he will infer that it is "normal" to bottle up your feelings. It helps younger children to relate them to colours, and referring back to their colourful jar full of wonderful emotions! I enjoyed many of the illustrations, and particularly liked Llewellyn's sculpture of a dinosaur with rabbit ears and butterfly wings. Personalised advertising may be considered a “sale” or “sharing” of information under California and other state privacy laws, and you may have a right to opt out. What I loved most about this book is how they explained what happened when you ran out of space for the jars. Creating a Feelings Jar can help when these emotions become too much and you need to find a way to manage or understand what you are feeling. While we may not be in control of this, we can learn to ask ourselves more often what we need inside of these challenges. When you are lost in a swirl of emotions, pull the squares of paper out and ask yourself, “What feeling(s) is most present for me regarding this challenge today? By being onto our feelings and what we most often feel, we can do some digging and identify what is causing those feelings in the first place.
