About this deal

While they successfully approximated the look and feel of furry butterflies, with gossamer wings for the Menoptera, and even the menacing, hard shelled ant appearance of the Zarbi, the end result for the Optera was more like a school play, with lots and lots of felt, but I sympathise. There are galleries and… well, reconstructions of the second and fourth episodes of the story which have been lost.

All the DVD extras have been ported over in standard definition from the DVD set so you're not missing anything. There is however a clever reconstruction of the 12 missing seconds from the final episode of The Time Meddler. I’ll admit, the parallels of free enterprise and communism were totally lost on me, and I’m sure the same could be said of the small children watching it live, back in the day. Still, the last few minutes are lovely and we have the debut of the excellent Peter Purves as stranded space pilot, Steven Taylor. Yes, some of the effects and design work shows the low budget and yes, there is a kitsch absurdity in grown men and women dressed as ants, moths and woodlice.steps are over, the screen goes entirely black with just "Film Bluray" written in tiny white letters at the bottom. To watch for a modern audience… Well, with the big anniversary around the corner and work on Series 14 continuing at pace – now is the perfect time to give it a go. Rehearsal Film - A short, silent colour 8mm film shot by Carole Ann Ford on the last day of studio reharsal. The season concludes with The Time Meddler, played by the ever-dependable Peter Butterworth, a fine character actor now probably best remember for his roles in various Carry On films.

Three brand new documentaries: Including an overview of Season 2, Flight Through Eternity, a look at 1960s collectables in Doctor Who and The Collectors, and a deep dive into the life and career of story editor David Whitaker in Looking For David. Suddenly Susan - Carole Ann Ford talks about her role as the Doctor's granddaughter and the first companion in the TARDIS in this interview originally recorded for The Story of Doctor Who. Across a jam-packed season of 37 episodes, the Doctor is joined by faithful companions Susan (Carole Ann Ford), Ian (William Russell), Barbara (Jacqueline Hill),Vicki (Maureen O’Brien) and Steven (Peter Purves). Originally broadcast in April 1966, The Celestial Toymaker sees the Doctor and companions separated when they come up against The Toymaker….Starting with season 19, the second set released in the collection, BBC Video began producing short videos promoting the upcoming release.

Audio Commentary - Featuring William Russell, Christopher Barry (Director), Raymond Cusick (Designer) and moderated by Toby Hadoke. Nostalgia and childhood re experienced Utterly brilliant to watch tv broadcast a couple of years before I was born. Even if the budget had somehow allowed for the stretch of animating the two episodes (it doesn’t – Richard Bignell’s been clear enough about that.

For season 18, the disc for Logopolis erroneously contains the rehearsal scripts for Earthshock instead of the scripts for this story. The second season for William Hartnell's First Doctor is the next release to come to Blu-ray with Season 2. From their first step into the TARDIS in An Unearthly Child to their departure at the end of The Chase, the duo were involved in sixteen thrilling adventures that captured the imagination of a generation. The second season for William Hartnell’s First Doctor is the next release to come to Blu-ray with Season 2…. Thankfully, the visuals here are much much better and sharper than the first time I watched the serial years ago.
