About this deal

Glad I did, very disappointed with the results, it's made everything way too dark, the previous red bubinga looks like a dull brown. Pour a small amount of Danish oil straight out of the tin onto the surface you want to protect and evenly rub it all over the surface with a clean rag. The key point here Oscar is that Bubinga will darken naturally with exposure to UV light and to the air. How did you apply the danish oil, if using it outside it is suggested that you apply with a brush and flood the surface, not removing any excess.

It is our preferred application method due to the way the texture interacts with the surface during the oiling and rubbing process. If the surface is a bit rough after the last coat of oil, you can also sand it with some super fine 0000 steel wool or a scourer. Danish Oil is completely non-toxic and food safe when dry which means in can be used on all oak items and in all environments. The photograph below was taken at a low angle to show the low sheen finish after application and finishing with Danish Oil.

Our Danish Oil gives any untreated or previously treated wood a long lasting and durable finish which is easy to apply by simply wiping or brushing on. You may be able to slow that process down by a year or two, but for all practical purposes you can't prevent it. A time tested and proven blend of natural oils and resins, it penetrates deep into all interior and exterior wood and dries to provide a hard, durable, but highly attractive satin finish. Oak and softwoods are prone to weather-staining caused by moisture activating mould spores present naturally in the wood.If the wood has been treated with an oil, varnish or paint, you'll need to strip this off, or sand it off with sandpaper prior to applying the Danish Wood Oil. This is one of those finishing projects where pretty much anything can be justified, so enjoy the freedom! Danish Oil can be used on all types of wood (oak, pine, beech, walnut etc) and on wood used in any environment. This helped when I applied oil in the afternoon, wiped it down, then the cool evening kept it contained until it skinned over.

This method is suitable when working on large areas, or when there is a limited amount of time available for oiling each day. It shouldn't take more than one or two days at room temp but until the finish has fully cured if you heat the surface again with hot plates or waffles you will very likely get a recurrence, since any partially-cured oil in the finish can liquefy when heated and capillary action will tend to bring it to the surface.

The natural finish of Danish oil is satin, and buffing it will make it a bit shinier, but it will not become glossy. And, if you do have a small scratch, you can easily apply another coat of Danish oil to make it disappear. If the wood has been painted or waxed, you’ll have to remove that finish before you can oil the surface.

Ensure the surface is clean and dry before application, and any old oils or waxes have been removed, if restoring an item. Per his instructions I let them dry for a few days and sprayed on 2 coats 1 pound cut of blond shellac. This method allows Danish Oil to be completely applied during the course of a single day, and the wood to be ready to use after 48 hours.
