The instructions on the Cuprinol state that you need to protect new wood with a wood preservative first which I did. On opening the tin and giving it a good stir it’s apparent that this paint is thinner than your average emulsion paint. I used on those cheap rough sawn 6ft fence panels (the budget orange coloured ones) that had no previous treatment. The product will still achieve good opacity in 2 coats over a similar colour, although deeper colours may require a third coat.

They mention that it gives a good finish that is quite impressive, covers rough wood easily, and lasts at least 4-5 years. Colours are easy to choose by combining nature’s neutrals (greys, and muted greens, browns and blues) which are best suited for bigger items in the garden and nature’s brights (yellows, pinks, purples and brigther greens and blues) ideal for smaller items in the garden. One of my tins had leaked a tiny bit due to a dent on the edge of the lid but no noticeable loss of paint.
