About this deal

The game we currently have for sale, pictured on this page, comes from the original owner’s collection. In general education, experience or plain old money will get you into a career that you want to pursue.

Most of these favorite family games, like Careers, were “throw-dice-and-move” games based primarily on luck. So for example in a regular multi-player game a player can set a goal of 20 hearts of happiness, 20 stars of fame, and 20 thousand dollars of fortune, or 45 hearts, 15 thousand dollars and no interest in any fame. These 4 or 5-star reviews represent the opinions of the individuals who posted them and do not reflect the views of Etsy. There are 28 opportunity cards and 28 exposure cards that will affect the outcome of the board game. That said, we are here to serve you, to offer you fine quality items that are conservatively described so that you will always be pleasantly surprised and delighted with your purchase. There you can earn a fortune, raise your salary and earn lots of fame points, but there are severe risks – you can lose all your money and fame.

Trying not to be limited by just the people we’re locked down with, we’ve also been experimenting at playing games online with friends situated elsewhere in the country using Skype, a couple of cameras and a bit of pre-planning. The game is a very close replica of the original Waddingtons game that I also own, but with the Uranium Prospecting replaced by Computing, Hollywood by Entertainment and going to Sea by going on a Yacht. Those were the three goals that the player had to achieve, with a total of 60 points to be divided between them, as each player chose their own combination as their ultimate career achievement (if only real life was that simple! Although there isn’t a modern day version of Careers in production right now, there have been various different versions over the years. After a while of playing we decided to modify the game to our own liking and try to make it even more challenging.

g., a player's Success Formula specifies 20 fame victory points but they accumulate more than 20 during play).Games magazine included Careers in their "Top 100 Games of 1980", praising it as a "classic family game" that is "Good for two to six players". This Version is from 1971 by Parker , This is a Game where the players set their own victory conditions. In fact, each time you go, you get an extra “Experience Card,” (explained later); after your fourth visit along the same career path, you even get a free trip to Florida or Hawaii or Mallorca, or elsewhere, depending on which edition you’re playing. Careers" ends when the first player completes their Success Formula, making for a fast game (40-60 minutes for four experienced players). Although there is an Engineering degree, it doesn’t seem to offer you anything more than the generalised College degree.

In the oldest versions of the game, players landing on a square occupied by another player are "knocked to the park bench" in one corner of the board, where they must throw a 2, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 10, 11, or 12 to move on. There have been a number of iterations of the board game since then with different careers switched out for others (like Sports and Ecology). Please keep in mind that the official Careers rules and instructions could be different depending on the game version you have.He later redesigned the game to include “enlightenment”, “virtue”, and “power”, but these were not also adopted by the game’s publishers as it transformed Careers from a family game into a game for adults. However, the process of thinking about what you want and then pursuing flexible strategies to achieve it probably hammers the right kind of messages. As you go around the board players have the opportunity to pick up both opportunity and experience cards.
