About this deal

And so this book kind of consciously conspires against you and the more you try, the worse the result. This book is a dry read, devoid of drama and stripped of humanity, but tells more about the disaster than a hundred other books combined.

Based on the series of events that led up to the sinking, the book goes on to record the experiences of those who survived. There were theories that there were doomed items on board - the hope diamond and an Egyptian artifact with a Mummy's curse. It was constructed in the yards of Harland and Wolff, a reputed naval shipyard based out of Belfast, Northern Ireland. On 10 April 1912, people from all walks of life began embarking on Titanic, then the largest ship afloat, for what was to be the trip of a lifetime on the ship’s maiden voyage across the north Atlantic.

I could tell that James W Bancroft does what I was hoping for from the description and you could tell that the author had a passion for the topic. His family couldn’t afford to bring him home to Dumfries in Scotland, so he was buried alongside 121 other unclaimed Titanic bodies at Fairview Lawn Cemetery, in Halifax, Nova Scotia. The sinking and subsequent investigations brought to light serious problems in the safety arrangements on passenger’s vessels. Complete with firsthand accounts from the last few survivors of the ship, stunning images of the discovery, and subsequent exploration of the wreck, the book provides an in-depth analysis into the last few hours of the Titanic.

There were about a thousand on board Britannic when she foundered, many of them wounded, but remarkably only 28 people died – the warm water of the Aegean and Britannic’s proximity to the Greek island of Kea saving their lives. Comprehensive reference materials, including lists and biographies of Titanic's passengers and crew, her cargo manifest, and a bibliography. One of the most lavishly decorated books the world has seen was despatched from London to New York in April 1912. Lord was one of the first to expose what happened to the third class passengers and in the film, which was based on his book, graphic images were created showing disturbing scenes of third class passengers being locked in while passengers in other sections of the ship freely entered the lifeboats. JAMES BANCROFT has produced more than 100 books and articles, the subjects of which reflect his varied interests.

He took out advertisements inviting survivors to get in touch, interviewing sixty passengers and crew. Classic is the original, the tried and tested, the standard from which all else is created and so it is for these wonderful rooms filled with light and space - the signature of Titanic Hotel . People who were to board the day of its launching suddenly felt the need to either decide upon a longer stay or another passage on another ship. Supposedly it was on board as Titanic set off on her voyage and was responsible for her accident and sinking.

I did learn a lot more about Titanic and her passengers, and of course, the omens were amazing and creepy. Tom's scrapbooks are always fascinating, full of photographs, notes and snippets of history that inspire his books, and this one is no different! Stories and movies have been written about it and rumors of the past are still being whispered about the disaster. The sinking was caused due to rapid flooding of five holds of the ships due to damage sustained on collision with the iceberg. Even though this book focuses on topics I would not normally believe in (Omens etc), there is considerable information and stories here to keep those of us who are, fascinated.

Original Belfast newspaper reports are used to describe the creation and launch of this great ship, and these give a clear indication of the pride which we in Belfast had in our latest creation. In a way it's perfect; the whole tale is a meta-story because part of the text is about, 'Sure, when you've got it, use it, enjoy your life, but know it will end, be aware of it' - it's almost like a sort of curse.
