About this deal

It is a mine of wealth, a paradise of glory, and a river of pleasure… It involves the highest responsibility, rewards the greatest labor, and will condemn all who trifle with its sacred contents.

If we are told its impossible and a character has the conviction to fight that and make it topside no matter what there's an end game. It's a great teaching tool for an individual, a parent, or a small group to navigate through and improve or learn how to focus on God's Word. The central challenge that Deeper addresses is the reader’s fight against three-step, punchy, alliterated solutions to problems only solvable through union with Christ. It’s only with that foundation that I can put to death the stubborn sins in my life and “work out [my] own salvation with fear and trembling” (Phil 2:12). But the concise version is an inviting 88 pages (minus documentation and index) for busy Christ-followers. Ortlund builds on the wonderful truths from his first book, Gentle and Lowly, to teach us true change comes from knowing the Saviour whose love for us never wavers—even in our worst failures. Pain – Ortlund reminds us that according to the New Testament, pain is “a means, not an obstacle, to deepening in Christian maturity” (125). As well as offering a simple framework to the reader to follow in achieving this goal, it is also honest, realistic and frank about the challenges there are.

let your union with Jesus, the friend of sinners, take you deeper, ever deeper, into the wonders of the gospel. I won't be continuing the last book any time soon unless I'm on a happy high and feel the need to get sucked into depression. But it’s interesting that my highlights in the back of the book (I do them as I go) are almost exclusively quotes from other authors. I understand I can change my preference through my account settings or unsubscribe directly from any marketing communications at any time.

Christian growth is bringing what you do and say and even feel into line with what, in fact, you already are. They are both under the umbrella of union, but the process of sanctification is also spurred on by a proper recognition of what took place at justification. Pastor and best-selling author Dane Ortlund offers words of encouragement to those seeking to grow deeper in their faith, making the case that sanctification is not accomplished by doing more or becoming better, but by going deeper into Christ himself. Our spiritual growth happens when we have the right view of Jesus and our unity with him, are honest about our sin, and are resting in his saving and unconditional love. Jeff Long is the New York Times bestselling author whose novels include The Wall, The Reckoning (in development with Reese Witherspoon at Type A Productions), Year Zero, and The Descent.

Further, in his chapter on acquittal, Ortlund highlights the stories of three Christians (Martin Luther, C. Having marinated in the wisdom, beauty, and encouragement of Dane’s new book, I totally understand why my friend chose deeper as the primary image for the title. When I began this book, I was discouraged by the depth of my sin and was despairing of my ability to change. When I read Harry Potter or Fablehaven, I loved it because I felt like the book had an ending, but still left you wondering what would happen in the next book.

I found myself wishing Ortlund would be more practical … But that very impulse betrayed how much I really needed the book. By looking to Christ and truly understanding who He is, and what He did for us, we grow to love Him more. Further, he argues that these men found themselves “coming back in a post-conversion way to the liberating truth of the same gospel” (109).

Nevertheless, in my opinion, more emphasis on true mortification would have provided a helpful balance to the overall presentation. Or is the issue simply deep-er, that is focusing more on the growth journey than arriving at a spiritual destination? You will stand in strength, and grow in Christ, and walk in joy, and bless the world no further than you know this book.
