About this deal

With its short, cliff hanger ending, chapters, I found myself reading late into the night and at every opportunity during the day to find out what happens next. They have two sons, William and James, three grandsons and two granddaughters, and divide their time between homes in London, Cambridge and Mallorca. The books in this series all follow a sort of pattern, and I just knew that this of course would end with another cliffhanger where you don't know who in the Clifton / Barrington families will or will not survive. In addition, adding to the drama are political battles, boardroom intrigues and skulduggery, international villains and shadowy government agents.

pages; Harry Clifton and his wife Emma rush to hospital to learn the fate of their son Sebastian, who has been involved in a fatal car accident. This series of stories (originally meant to be a trilogy but now into the fourth and with a fifth yet to come) has had its ups and downs. Emma resolves to fill his spot but is stalled by Martinez, who nominates one of his men, Major Alex Fisher, to sabotage the firm during this critical moment. The Clifton Chronicles, a series of seven novels published between 2011-2017, topped the bestseller lists around the world. Why had her son been traveling to Cambridge by car, when she’d bought him a train ticket only a couple of days before?Jeffrey Archer, whom I remember as "the storyteller in the class of Dumas" from one of his early blurbs, is still going strong.

Archer begins in the late 1950s with Harry and Emma taking the lead and moves on to Don Pedro Martinez, Cedric Hardcastle, a bluff Yorkshireman and dowdy old banker who plays a significant role, Major Alex Fisher, Giles Barrington, Sebastian and Jessica Clifton, and Don Pedro’s son Diego. If there was ever a hope of some meaning in the saga of the Cliftons before, it is quickly removed in this book.Harry didn’t give a thought to the fact he would be among the first passengers to cross the Atlantic non-stop, as he could only think about his son, and how much he’d been looking forward to going up to Cambridge to begin his first year at university. Emma had once read that in times of personal tragedy, all anyone wanted to do was turn the clock back.

And as we have seen he ends the book with a cliff hanger so you will have to read Mightier Than the Sword to find out what happens. Both families are delighted until Priscilla Bingham, Jessica's future mother-in-law, has a visit from an old friend, Lady Virginia Fenwick, who drops her particular brand of poison into the wedding chalice. Without such a glue, the tale could at best be used to show some sort of philosophical meaninglessness of life, where events that appear extremely important in real time turn at best into mildly interesting historic facts later. As expected with Jeffrey Archer there are lots of twists and turns as well as cliff hangers in this latest offering. As to be expected from a master storyteller, the books are incredibly well written with just the right amount of detail, just the right amount of suspense all served up with well written, flowing prose. If you are the publisher or author and feel that they do not properly reflect the range of media opinion now available, send us a message with the mainstream reviews that you would like to see added. The key addition that Archer makes is Cedric Hardcastle who is an example of how the author is able to shift the focus of the novel on a dime, a process that he repeats often.

The next book, Mightier Than the Sword will be published on 24 February 2015 [4] and Archer has stated that Margaret Thatcher will make an appearance. Having been frustrated at having to wait until 2015 to see how this ends I am beginning to see there point. Archer's constant development of ideas set against historical events proves seamless, though he uses said events only in passing, unlike Follett or Rutherfurd in their respective multi-generational series. You will be astonished and at the same time equally keen to know about the turn of events that has taken place in the end.Similar to the previous books, the Barringtons/Clifton's constantly try to thwart the devastating blows that are thrown their way by ruthless people who only want to see their demise. As they reached the outskirts of Harlow, Emma glanced out of the side window to see a signpost directing them to the Princess Alexandra Hospital. Hardcastle's first decision is who to support to become the next chairman of the board: Emma Clifton or Major Alex Fisher?
