About this deal

The author gives the main character a sense of vulnerability as she has drifted away from her friends, so it makes sense that she instantly latches onto the helpful Anna. When Anna comes into her life she appears to be just what Emily needs - a friend and someone to support her with childcare. Though it doesn't detract from the plot, I found it fascinating to wonder exactly what her motivations were.

The contract between Anna and Emily is very interesting and introduces some moral questions for the reader to consider. I loved getting to know more about her past, and I was finally able to make that vital connection between Emily and Anna. I wasn’t sure my heart could take more emotion, but it somehow managed it as Emily and Simon have a crucially important chat. Are her thoughts out of control or is that annoying low-level niggle that something is very wrong in her life when everything appears to be right, a true indicator? I loved how we’re always kept in the loop with how both characters feel, the description consistently excellent, tugging on those heartstrings yet still making us question so much. Gripping throughout, it has a satisfying and jaw-dropping ending' My Weekly'This is not a predictable thriller, I was very surprised by some of the turns.

I have read everything by Susan Elliot Wright and loved all her books, especially The Flight of Cornelia Blackwood. It was already so gripping; every event, no matter how small, had me hanging onto the author’s every word. There are so many things that made me doubt Anna and how trustworthy she was, my stomach turning at the small details that make everything feel scarily real.Emma Bamford, author of Deep Water'Dark and sinister, this creepy psychological thriller has it all. Until reading this, I didn’t realise how much I needed to read about a character like this; a bit obsessive, a bit strange. As time goes on, Anna seems to know more than she should about Emily, who is having marriage difficulties. There was something so out of place, something that, if not dealt with, could well and truly destroy Emily’s life.
