About this deal

Robey, Tim (31 August 2017). "Stratton review: Dominic Cooper is lethally bland in this dull action flop". The Telegraph.

Duncan Falconer - Wikipedia

Falconer joined the British Royal Marines at the age of 18. At 19 years of age, he attended SBS selection in Poole Dorset and was one of nine Marines to successfully complete the course out of 147 men. Most candidates are required to serve some time in a Commando unit before applying, however Duncan was given an exception. This was due to many SBS operatives leaving to instead work as deep sea divers in the North Sea for the lucrative salaries. The SBS briefly allowed recruits from CTCRM to apply for selection before serving the usual minimum time in a commando unit. Later he was posted to 42 Commando as a career broadening opportunity. [2] Although he had accompanied the side on the close-season tour of Germany and Yugoslavia in 1960, Falconer would have great difficulty in securing a regular place in the first team. Hydes Managing Director Chris Hopkins commented “This exciting acquisition represents a positive strategic move for the business. We very much look forward to working with the excellent team’s at all four pubs as we continue to develop our food-led business”. Deciding that his future lay away from Easter Road, after just a few games for the reserves the following season, Falconer would head for Australia to sign for the New South Wales side Apia Leichardt based in Sydney, later returning to Britain where he would join the Tunbridge Wells Police Force in Kent. Falconer continues to write books and screenplays. In 2017 the film Stratton, [4] based on the main character of his books, was released. It stars Dominic Cooper as Stratton as well as Connie Nielsen, Derek Jacobi and Thomas Kretschmann.Bradshaw, Peter (1 September 2017). "Stratton review – Dominic Cooper is stubbly special-forces tough guy". The Guardian. In just over five seasons at Easter Road, Falconer would make 63 appearances in all games for the first team including friendlies and tour fixtures, three of them in Europe, scoring the winner in the 1-0 away Fairs Cup victory against Utrecht in November 1962. He would also make 109 appearances for the second team, scoring 10 goals. Duncan Falconer is the chosen pseudonym of a popular British author of the popular John Stratton series. His real name is unknown as well as parental origin. Falconer was an orphan. He was abandoned at birth and raised in an orphanage in the North London area. Later, he was adopted by a British couple and spent the rest of his childhood in the Battersea. On 25 February 2015 Simon West was hired to direct the film, which was fully financed by GFM Films. [4] Five days before the filming was set to begin, Cavill exited the film due to creative differences with the script. [5] Later it was announced that Dominic Cooper would take over the title role. Also writing in The Guardian, Wendy Ide described the film as "[l]ess an action movie, more a direct breach of the Geneva conventions" and was also critical of Nielsen, "Connie Nielsen is staggeringly bad as Stratton’s boss. She sounds like a drunk person trying to do a posh accent to get out of being breathalysed. A career low." [12] Tim Robey of The Telegraph sums up the film: "Wholly useless, entirely harmless, Stratton would be good clean fun, if it was good or fun." [13]

McNary, Dave (25 February 2015). "Simon West to Direct Henry Cavill in 'Stratton' ". Variety . Retrieved 9 July 2015. First into Action also depicted the rivalry and history between the Special Boat Services unit and the Special Air Service unit. Falconer’s freshman novel was so successful that Time Warner Publishing commissioned the author to write two more military adventure novels. The main character in Falconer’s first few novels was John Stratton, a fictional representation of himself who followed the same career trajectory as the author. Although he had accompanied the side on the close-season tour of Germany and Yugoslavia in 1960, Falconer would have great difficulty in securing a regular place in the first team and it would not be until the 1961-62 campaign that he would make a real impact, ending the season as the Easter Road side’s top scorer with 12 goals from just 18 appearances, two more than the recently signed Gerry Baker. Then from 150 hopefuls, he was one of only nine to pass the SBS selection course. And, aged 19, was the only one of the new recruits to last more than a few months of active service. a b c "EIS Provider Review" (PDF). Hardman & Co. 5 April 2017. At the age of 18, Falconer found another family. He joined the British Royal Marines. At age 19 he went to the SBS (special boat services) selection in Poole Dorset and was only one of nine Marines (out of a class of 147 other men) to successfully complete the challenging SBS course. His mastery of the course and military knowledge impressed his superiors. Even though the military required most candidates are rto serve time as a Commando before applying to the Special Boat Services, Falconer was chosen as an exception to this requirement. To broaden his career, his superiors posted him as the 42 Commando at a later date.

On 3 November 2014 it was announced that Henry Cavill would next star in the action thriller film Stratton, to be produced by his own banner Promethean Productions, Amber Entertainment, and GFM Films. [3] It would be based on Duncan Falconer's eight-novel series of the same name, featuring the lead character John Stratton, an SBS soldier working for the Intelligence Detachment in Northern Ireland. [3] The film, produced by Ileen Maisel and Lawrence Elman, who also bought the film rights to the novel, would be set in Southern Italy, Rome and London.
