About this deal

Getting a rental car is relatively easy and accessible in Canada, so you’ll have a hassle-free experience getting the right vehicle for your family. Known for its ranching industry, Calgary is known around Canada for its meats. For some of the most delicious steaks in the city, Vintage Chophouse is a fantastic place to try. Since I’m not actually a steak person myself, my favorite dish there is the lobster mac and cheese, which is exactly the heavenly deliciousness it sounds like: large lobster chunks mixed in with a perfect blend of pasta and melted cheeses. You can use the connecting buses between Lake Louise and Jasper. Once you get there, you’ll have to figure out how to get to the nearby attractions. The actual ascent of Assiniboine is a demanding mountaineering route that should not be undertaken by inexperienced climbers - but you can take in the beauty of the famous peak on this route, which starts from the popular Assiniboine Lodge (which itself is reachable only by a substantial hike or short helicopter trip). This route takes you to the summit of Nub Peak at 2,746m via a scenic ridge. Go hiking– There are tons of trails and hiking areas that extend from Maligne Lake up into the nearby mountains. Early Afternoon: Explore the Jasper Town Area

If you need a bit of help, feel free to read our in-depth guides on Where to stay in Banff and Where to stay in Jasper. For those traveling on a budget, the cheapest option is to stay in campgrounds (in a tent, car, or RV). a b English, Joseph M.; Johnston, Stephen T. (2004). Most people pass by this trail so you might have the lake all to yourself. Hector Lake is one of the largest lakes in Banff National Park. Take pictures at Cirrus Mountain Viewpoint: Before getting to Parker Ridge Trailhead, be sure to visit the viewpoint to see Cirrus Mountain and all its glory. By the Anglo-American Convention of 1818, which established the 49th parallel north as the international boundary west from Lake of the Woods to the "Stony Mountains"; [28] the UK and the US agreed to what has since been described as "joint occupancy" of lands further west to the Pacific Ocean. Resolution of the territorial and treaty issues, the Oregon dispute, was deferred until a later time.Having a reusable water bottle when hiking is a must, as you can often fill it up from a stream along the trail. If you are concerned about water safety, use water bottle with a filter. Take pictures at Banff Surprise Corner: I loved this spot! The views of the Fairmont Banff Springs Hotel is incredible. We talk about Peyto Lake, Athabasca Glacier, Bow Lake, Parker Ridge Trail, Athabasca Falls, or Sunwapta Falls, but there are many more places you should try to squeeze in your day. JASPER NATIONAL PARK Although we cannot know what's your plan, we assume you'll visit at least one of the locations down below And, by doing it in that way, we saved a lot of money for traveling more. On the other hand, it required booking all services a long time in advance, and we had to lower our comfort level.

Take pictures of Morant’s Curve:Sadly there was road construction so we couldn’t see Morant’s Curve. This view is located near Lake Louise and is a beautiful spot where the railroad passes. Accommodation in July and August is really expensive and hard to secure, so make sure to make all your reservations way in advance. SHOULDER SEASON From the property, you can head out with experienced local guides along some of the area’s hiking trails, formed from old animal trails or logging roads and generally unknown. There are several rivers nearby for canoeing, kayaking, white-water rafting or fishing. Waterton Lakes National Park Bull elk, Waterton National Park Kootenay National Park is arguably the least known of all four national parks, and not that many international travelers visit it during their road trip.

If you’re looking for adventurous activities and relaxing views, Maligne Lake is the ideal spot to head over next. You can hire kayaks and canoes for low prices and enjoy your day cruising the waters. Jasper National Park Depending on your schedule, you’ll be hungry eventually, and if you need a great stop for breakfast or lunch, I strongly recommend Communitea. It’s a little coffeeshop/cafe hybrid with delicious, healthy dishes and a cute, colorful atmosphere. This itinerary travels in the region of 3,000km. This information is important as you have to prepay for your kilometers if you rent a campervan. In the summer, some of the must-visit places are connected by shuttle buses, but they usually run only in the summer season, and there is also no guarantee that the very same line will run next year. You can learn everything about the incredible Icefields Parkway with this brilliant smartphone audio tour between Lake Louise and Jasper. You’ll see the iconic Lake Louise a bit later in the morning, but you’ll first want to drive up to nearby Moraine Lake to catch that epic sunrise view that EVERYONE AND THEIR MOTHER wants to see.

It’s mainly used though as a gateway for enjoying the park’s outdoor activities, from hiking, canoeing and white-water rafting along the Athabasca River, to taking a guided motorcycle ride in a Harley-Davidson sidecar. After lunch, you’ll drive ~1 hour down the Trans-Canada Highway (Highway 1) to Canmore. At first, you might think you’re in the wrong place, with flat farmlands for miles. Summer and fall usually boast the best hiking and camping weather, but also attract the largest crowds. Once you’re in Yoho, you’ll actually stay in Field, the town of Yoho. There, you can grab dinner (I recommend Truffle Pigs Bistro & Lodge) before settling in to your accommodation for the night. Overnight in Field (Town of Yoho National Park)

Air Canada lost our baggage, so we came to Banff much later than we wanted to. Calgary Accommodation After you’ve stopped at Peyto Lake, you have a TON of options for things to do along the way. Here are just a few of the many hikes, activities, and viewpoints you can stop at along the Icefields Parkway: Snow Dome (3,456m; 11,339ft) is one of two hydrological apexes of North America. Water flows off Snow Dome into three different watersheds, into the Pacific Ocean, Arctic Ocean, and Atlantic Ocean via Hudson Bay.
