XD™ Lens Elements– Extra-low dispersion (XD) glass increases resolution and color fidelity therefore, resulting in crisp, sharp images. While this isn’t much of an issue for me in terms of quality, the Vortex Venom red dot sight isn’t the best choice if you want to support the local economy.

The controls for both Venom and Viper have “Up” and “Down” arrow to control their brightness. If you want to use the Auto-brightness settings on Vortex Venom, press and hold “Up” arrow until the dot flashes three times. To stop using Auto-brightness, press and hold “Up” arrow until the dot flashes two times.

It can easily be zeroed in using the MOA screw, and adjustments can be done easily like any other scope. Both sights have a 3 MOA dot reticle that is easy to acquire and perfect for precision shooting. An integrated battery compartment is present in the base of the optic on the viper. To switch out the battery, you must first unmount the optic, mount it again and zero it. The Venom is remarkably more practical, but this architecture slightly enlarges the optic. Venom’s snug-fitting compartment has only ever caused me one issue during operation. The battery fell out of the optics while I was firing bullets, rendering them useless because the screw holding the battery compartment closed became open and free. I then had to search for the battery, which I eventually did.

Compared to the Viper, the Venom offers a much brighter red dot. Both are useful in bright light conditions, but the vortex venom can intensify the brightness. Despite online retailers claiming that this red dot sight has a 30,000-hour battery life, there have been reports of the battery actually only lasting for 3 days.This makes it hard to get the battery compartment to lie flat and really “bite” the threads, making it near impossible to avoid cross-threading. Vortex Venom and Viper have 10 brightness settings which you can use to adjust to your environment. The difference is that the Venom has Auto brightness feature while the Viper doesn’t. This feature comes in handy while using the red dot in places with lots of shadows and/or different lightings. It’s also useful when you go out to the range for a whole day. It also has an auto-dot intensity feature that’ll control dot intensity for you based on the surrounding light conditions using an ambient light sensor.
