Overall, this is a case where the entire product description, design and aesthetics make it look and feel like it was made to be portable, pretty much like the AIWA EXOS 8, but instead, it is very much a speaker you'll mostly leave and use at home. Just like the Vifa Copenhagen 2.0, it is not intended to leave your room, although if you really want and try to, you will be able to take it on a little trip with you, if you'll be able to bear the weight. There is NFC as well built in the speaker, which helps you connect your source without having to search for the bluetooth, if your smartphone or source is NFC enabled. On the rear panel, there’s the AC input, Ethernet port, AUX input, and two USB ports for service purposes. I have used AIWA EXOS 9 for a while now and got used to its sound. This being said, I didn't have two speakers on hand to test the full stereo setup and how it works, so I'll be describing the sound of the speaker while it is just one, and used as it is, priced at 300 USD. I have used more than one source, including my smartphone, Xiaomi Mi Max 3, and even audiophile DAPs like iBasso DX220 to test the EXOS 9.

Aiwa speakers are a good choice for anyone looking for a quality sound system. The company has a long history of producing quality audio equipment, and their speakers are no exception. AIWA EXOS 9 is in a class of its own, being a bluetooth speaker, but not a very portable one, thanks to its weight, which is almost funny high, of about 7 KG, but it has a lot going on for it, including APT-X, a battery of about 15600 mAh, and even built-in EQ. Since it is a bluetooth speaker, it won’t have any pairings, and there are no actual comparison point for it at the moment, but don’t worry, as soon as I’ll be reviewing a speaker that matches its description, it will get compared to Exos 9. This being said, the Yamaha WX-021 Music Cast 20 is similar in concept and price, and Edifier Luna also works as a comparison point, and to make it three, I will also add Edifier S1000DB to the comparison list. Soundboks has focused on balancing loudness and portability with this new speaker. Unlike the Soundboks 3, the Go measures only slightly larger than competitors like the Hyperboom or Boombox 2 and weighs a much more manageable 20 pounds. Now, while this is still no lightweight speaker, carrying a Soundboks product in one hand is possible. Considering the size and number of drivers inside the speaker and the playtime, 15,600mAh seems more believable. 2,600mAh is simply to small for this kind of speaker. Besides, USB powerbank port would be useless if this was the actual battery capacity. To put things in perspective, Samsung S9 features 3,000mAh battery while iPhone X features 2,700mAh battery. Every opinion expressed is mine and I stand by it, the purpose of this review is to help those interested in AIWA EXOS 9 find their next music companion. The Soundboks 3 is not very portable and is quite heavy, weighing in at 34 lbs. Although it is considered portable, it is not lightweight, making it challenging to carry around. The price tag is quite steep, but it can easily justify its cost compared to competitors. The speaker’s primary focus is loudness and the party environment, which may result in some muddiness in the treble with certain songs, depending on the production. This is primarily true for vocals that lie deeper in the mix. The speaker features wireless connectivity – it runs on Bluetooth 4.2 and it’s reliable and stable within the standard 30ft Bluetooth range. Multipoint pairing is supported – you can connect two phones wirelessly at the same time. Also, thanks to the Connect + feature and JBL’s Connect + app, you can pair two JBL Boombox speakers or any two speakers that support Connect + and play the music in stereo or party mode.

Specs

The control panel and LCD screen are also nice features but their placement could’ve been better. The manufacturer decided to place the control panel on the top while the LCD display is located on the front panel. Placing them both on the top panel would make the speaker more user-friendly. The sound quality is what made Aiwa Exos-9 so popular but it’s not the only good thing about this speaker. The battery inside the speaker is pretty good (but there are some confusing things about the battery we are going to discuss). We also liked the facts that Exos-9 features USB powerbank port for charging phones/tablets and that you can customize the EQ settings by using onboard EQ controls. Exos-9 can be paired wirelessly with another Exos-9 speaker and you can choose between 2 modes – dual stereo and stereo separated (we are going to explain these two modes later).
