About this deal

I have had the Samsung Galaxy S20 plus with 5G for almost 7 months now and am perfectly happy with the device. It works great and flawlessly, it doesn't cause any problems or anything. The phone's battery lasts very long and works reliably, and the camera takes great photos as well as videos. The price-performance ratio is very good and you get great value for your money. True, the detail gets muddy at the tail end of that zoom range, but the intermediate steps – the camera app helpfully provides 2x, 4x, 10x, and 20x interval options – make it a lot easier to hone in on subjects of interest. It’s not quite the Samsung S20 Ultra’s much vaunted 100x Space Zoom, but the concept is the same – and given how rarely you’d need to get that close to a distant subject, we think 30x will suit you just fine. We reviewed the 5G version of the phone, and this review will mostly focus on that device as it's the more commonly available handset. The Samsung Galaxy S20 Plus doesn’t look much different to its predecessor, but this is the sleekest device in a long line of flagships – and that isn’t a bad look.

The screen covers the entire front, leaving negligible bezels around it; even the most prominent bottom bezel is quite narrow. So, how do these cameras perform? Well, they’re very good but not the best I’ve ever come across. In a side-by-side comparison of shots captured with the iPhone 11 Pro’s 12-megapixel camera (in daylight), I saw a little more contrast and lower noise levels in the Samsung Galaxy S20 Plus shots, while the iPhone images looked a touch more natural and neutral overall: The Samsung Galaxy S20 Plus sports a 6.7-inch punch-hole (Infinity-O) screen of a QHD+ (3200 x 1440 pixels) resolution. The Samsung Galaxy S20 Plus’ 6.7-inch AMOLED display is sharp and vibrant, with WQHD+ resolution (3200 x 1440). The display is a shade taller than the S10 Plus’ QHD+ (3040 x 1440) screen, which is likely due to it having less bezel at the top and bottom. But you likely won’t notice a difference given how similar they are – at least until you get to the refresh rate. One last point: you might want to turn on facial recognition since the in-screen fingerprint sensor is poor. CameraThat is, it’s got a bigger display and more battery life than the Samsung Galaxy S20, but it’s not quite as large and pricey as the Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra. If you want affordability, or the best of the best, go with one of the other two; however, we predict that for most folks the S20 Plus will hit the sweet spot. That’s not especially remarkable, but it seems that battery life is more or less keeping pace with innovation: you can eke out a bit more life by reducing the display resolution or dropping the refresh rate down to 60Hz; conversely, you can max-out the screen tech that’s on offer, but battery life will suffer accordingly. The Samsung Galaxy S20 Plus is the awkward middle child of Samsung’s 2020 flagship phone range. It isn’t as fully featured as the top-of-the-range S20 Ultra and it’s more expensive than the S20, which has many of the same features. That's 12GB of RAM for the Galaxy S20 Plus 5G, but if you opt for the 4G version you'll get 8GB of RAM. We've yet to test that version of the device, but we believe 8GB of RAM should be enough to get you through everyday tasks.

The Samsung Galaxy S20 Plus is in many ways higher end than the standard Samsung Galaxy S21, but you might want to look at the Galaxy S21 Plus instead, and for the true top Samsung flagship the Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra is the only choice. There’s more good news, too: alongside superb performance, battery life is top notch. In our video rundown test, with the display set to 170cd/m2 brightness and flight mode enabled, the Samsung Galaxy S20 Plus lasted an impressive 20hrs 12mins.Bear in mind, however, that this result was obtained with the phone in its default settings. That is with the resolution set to FHD+ and the refresh rate at the more standard 60Hz. Bump the settings up to 120Hz and you can expect that figure to nose-dive by at least a couple of hours, which is okay but not quite as impressive. And finally, the 30x maximum - note the blurred edges and contrast, evidence that this is a cropped zoom of a larger image. I have had the Galaxy S20 Plus from Samsung for 6 months and am really satisfied with it. The phone has a good camera and fast response time. Also, there are many ways to set it. I think the phone is a bit big for an average sized hand. But still, it's good. The price-performance ratio is also right. The ultrawide photographs, in good light, are very good. There’s a touch more stretched-out distortion in the corners than on the iPhone 11 Pro but the image is, overall, a little cleaner and crisper with, again, less noise:
