About this deal

Readers seeking a story of ‘Daring Do’, ‘Cloak and Dagger’ and ‘Spies and Counter Spies’ might also find it worthy of their attention. This analysis allows readers to engage with the complexities of intelligence activities, shedding light on the ethical challenges and geopolitical considerations that shape the world of espionage. Furthermore, if those who decide the allocations of the real and unreal are cruel, mad or colossally wrong, what then? The Deuxième Bureau had manufactured the story as a way to force Britain to make a stronger commitment to defend France. He revealed that the head of the Secret Service used a single initial C and that he wrote in green ink!

Imagery intelligence activities conducted by the RAF Photographic Reconnaissance Unit (now JARIC, The National Imagery Exploitation Centre). The author has developed a reputation for authoritative histories of the British Intelligence Services with unusual access to their records. The Secret Intelligence Service, or 'MI6' as it is more popularly known, guards its own secrets with more discipline and rigour than most. He has been investigating the British security and intelligence services for more than twenty years. The turning point in Jeffery's story, the making of a secret service with a truly international range, was the Second World War.

The MI6 and other intelligence services have always been a bit of intrigue and so I was looking forward to reading this book by Nigel West. This no-holds-barred expose of the agency's operations and methods describes in riveting detail its impact on the history and politics of the last half century. It is Britain's player at the chessboard of international intelligence-gathering and a key partner to America's superpower status. Its first director was Captain Sir Mansfield George Smith-Cumming, who often dropped the Smith in routine communication.BSC also founded Camp X in Canada to train clandestine operators and to establish (in 1942) a telecommunications relay station, code name Hydra, operated by engineer Benjamin deForest Bayly. It was one of the first sensational memoirs of a former spy, revealing details of his Secret Service. Dorril's exploration of the political, cultural, and ethical dimensions of MI6 contributes to the book's academic depth. This book provides the first authorised recognition that SIS existed, but also the first glimpse into its clandestine activities. It is no secret that book blurbs are selected for positive advertisement purposes, but this book is in no way "more captivating than a James Bond novel" or some such nonsense.

A substantial part of the Polish resistance activity was clandestine and involved the establishment of cellular intelligence networks. An engaging inside story throwing light on many wartime incidents that had previously remained unexplained. Safely protected by living on an island, the British traditionally didn’t get much involved with the continent of Europe and remained in ‘splendid isolation’, secured by the Royal Navy, the greatest in the world. In 1940, the British intelligence services entered into a special agreement with their Polish counterparts. This study, which unveiled information that had been classified as secret until that point, was known as the Report of the Anglo-Polish Historical Committee. A central foreign counter-espionage Circulating Section, Section V, to liaise with the Security Service to collate counter-espionage reports from overseas stations.
