I'm sure it will be of use to the adventurous as, even though I'm not a hiker/mountaineer, it seems to have vital information I would have thought necessary for each Bothy: size (rooms, sleeping numbers), map lat/long location (plus indicative maps), fuel/water supply (do you need to take any etc) key local attractions, public transport, special notes about access/restrictions, different routes to each (parking, distance from and time of walk, terrain).

What I really like is the author gives honest accounts of the places, if one is a bit run down, you know about it before you go so you’re not expecting 5* luxury at the end of your walk. Acknowledged as a classic of mountain writing, this book takes you into the bothies, howffs and dosses on the Scottish hills as Fishgut Mac, Desperate Dan and Stumpy the Big Yin stalk hill and public house, evading gamekeepers and Royalty.
Follow in Phoebe’s footsteps as she shares hard-won, expert advice on how best to make use of these ‘stone tents’, including packing lists, bothy etiquette, best walking routes in, local legends and more. However it always surprises me how many Gorm lovers don’t seem to regularly and significantly donate to the Mar Lodge footpath fund , or regular Gorm bothy users to the MBA , or to the NE Mountain Trust, or the Cairngorms Campaign etc, etc. Though of course, like many people, I'm too busy with a work and family life and will probably never experience a single night in a bothy, but of course, I don't have to really because Phoebe cast a bothy spell in my mind with her writing style. His engaging travel writing documents the fascinating history of each bothy and the adventurers who use them. The MBA has no monopoly or veto on people writing about bothies and, in any case, some foreign guide books already mention bothies and their locations.
