The film was nominated for Best Picture (it lost to The Shape of Water), though it did merit Frances McDormand and Sam Rockwell acting Oscars in their respective categories. But Pádraic’s repeated efforts only strengthen his former friend’s resolve and when Colm delivers a desperate ultimatum, events swiftly escalate, with shocking consequences. As the Irish Civil War rages on the mainland, an unexpected little war of sorts has sparked on the island of Inisherin as Colm (Brendan Gleeson) has, without word of reason, decided to break his friendship with Pádraic (Colin Farrell).
